No, it doesnt.

Signing a player to a minor league deal at the league minimum is not equal to what the Sox did.

Also, Two cub fans commented on the signing when the Cubs made it.

One said "not bad for the league minimum, might be able to flip him to a desperate team" (exactly what happened btw)

another said "i like the move"

$1.5 million isn't breaking any team's budget. It's funny how Cub fans thought he was so valuable and Sox fans are largely unexcited or negative about the signing.

It's funny that you try to twist everything into that conclusion you want to be true.

what cub fan thought he was valuable? the one who said it was a good signing for the league minimum? Ridiculous

you (decent utility guy) and dolphin (good splits against righties) have been as positive as any of the comments made when the Cubs got him for the league minimum.

In 69 games with the Cubs he slashed .279/.318/.373 accumulating 1.4 WAR while playing adequate 2B and CF.

He'll help when Eaton misses time with hammy or whatever.

Do you really want me to go through the board and find the posts where Cub fans were talking about flipping him for more great prospects? Beyond that, I heard more than a few Cub fans call radio shows with similar thoughts.

I'm not happy and I'm not upset that they got him. I think chances are he's better than any second baseman they have. I hope that turns out not to be true.

Of course, the Cub fan approach would be to insist that Micah Johnson is the next Maury Wills and complain about Bonifacio blocking his path.

You mean after he started the year on fire and it was clear someone would trade for him?

Or the total of 2 comments on this board when he was signed that were both very tame?

I guess we see what we want to see

Now you seem to be admitting you thought he was valuable.

No, you missed something there.

I was talking about the reaction to the two signings of Bonaficio by both fanbases. Your first comment compared the fanbases reactions to each signing.

Yes, when he was hitting .400 to start the season people thought he had value (which he did). Anyone who knows baseball at all would have agreed with that sentiment.

Anyway, we all know that if 99 Cub fans hated a move, you would talk about how the one guy who loves it and how he represents real Cub fans. You are completely close minded and stubborn on this. Its your worst topic.

oh well, moving on

No. Anyone who knows baseball would have agreed that he was a journeyman utility man who had a good month.

I'm not sure what you're arguing about. Are you really suggesting that Cub fans aren't generally more optimistic about their players than Sox fans?

Which has value and we dont even have to speculate. Now you're not even being honest.

If you're saying a guy who can play 5 positions coming off a great month has no value, then I suggest you're lying, because I know you know better.

Im not arguing. Im pointing out hypocrisies.

You made your decision about what the fanbases were probably 25 years ago and you will twist every story to fit that narrative. It's very obvious. You think Sox fans are more realistic and know baseball. It's a tired stereotype.

You're very sensitive when someone makes a broad statement about Cub fans, regardless of how accurate such a statement may be.

Further, my comment wasn't any more of a criticism of Cub fans than it was of Sox fans. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Bonifacio isn't some highly valuable piece to be flipped for the next GREAT PROSPECT, nor is he some worthless bum that a Sox fan should be distraught over having on his team for 4 million next season.

Yeah. His value is a minor league catcher who will maybe someday be a nice backup.

I know the histories of both teams very well. I also know many members of each fanbase.

If you don't think the Cub fans are generally more optimistic, you're just wrong. I'm not even saying that's a bad thing. You see to believe it is.

How is that? I don't see that as great value. Any guy that is being paid by a professional baseball organization obviously has some value. Are you going semantic on me?

As do I. Yet we have vastly different conclusions. Weird.

And you do think it's a bad thing and you use it to paint Sox fans as smarter. Dont be dishonest.

This is what you do.

So now the word great is invoked which completely changes the proposition.

You're reading what you wnat to read into my statements. I hardly think that when Cub fans were excited about flipping Bonifacio a catcher that probably will never make it was what had them excited.

This is a nice little move. He can platoon with Gillaspie and find his way into a lot of games with his running and defensive versatility. If the Sox hadn't already acquired Jennings, Robertson and Duke I'd agree the $3m would've been better spent elsewhere, but the bullpen situation is entirely different than what it was a month ago.

I don't think anyong thought a half year of Bonifacio was worth a great prospect. I think consensus was a "nothing" could turn into a "something" like a relief prospect or something.

Cubs tossed in James Russell with Bonifacio to get Caratini.

oh, ok, so now being happy about getting a low level prospect for a guy signed off the scrap heap to the league minimum is now being optimistic?

Quite a stretch.

Of course they werent. But when building the "Cubs love every move" argument you have to exaggerate at times.

You're just wrong. You're so sensitive about people thinking Cub fans are "dumb", your perspective on the subject is fucked up.

Why do you think saying a fanbase is particularly optimistic is mocking? Am I also mocking Sox fans when I say we are largely pessimistic? "Wait 'til next year" is the motto of one particular fanbase, isn't it? Or am I just making shit up?
