The article was pretty poor. Here's the money quote Bernstein focused on due to it's lovely use of jargon:
Quote:
"This is a classic phenomenon in sports: an undervalued commodity becoming valuable again because of a shift in how the game is played. "

Passing has always been and will continue to be recipe for successful offenses and stopping the pass for defenses.
The running game never stopped being valuable. Running games are vital for successful play-action passing and salting away games. I bet the Lions wish they felt more comfortable in their run game to get 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1.

Doofuses like Bernstein who gobble and run with the hot new take fell for this stupidity.

His disdain for the hipster really comes across as self loathing.

2 of the 4 teams that won this weekend won with garbage heap level (or replacement level in cool kids parlance) running backs

I don't know where you would receive and epiphany on the value of running backs from this weekend.

Yep and it is very sad that they are skirting at least saying something positive.

All I hear is "I-I-I-I, never listened to him, uh-uh-uh, didn't know him...."

as it relates to the draft I think RB's will go higher than they have in the past 2 years in 2015... players that provide as much production as lacy, hill, gio bernard, leveon bell have the last 2 years probably deserve to be 1st round picks... i bet someone "reaches" for a RB this year in the late first.

if dan truely apprecaited RB's again perhaps a start would be complimenting matt forte for providing incredible and reliable production for the last however many years

i'd be ok with pinning the steeler's troubles against the ravens due to the fact leveon bell wasnt active

He doesn't really help teams he is on, is a big distraction, is going to be injury prone his whole career, and he is already past his expiration date for being an even bigger issue for the team on or off the field.

I'd take my chances with another WR in the draft, especially if some desperate team will give you a 5th round pick for him.

Okay, I listened for five minutes and heard them fumbling through trying to say something about Stu Scott.
They Failed.
I turned them off, back to jams!

Stuart Scott seems to be the first time I've started to notice the generation gap between 30 somethings and 40 somethings.

I loved Stuart Scott, though he got annoying just like all ESPN did the past decade or so. Still, he was great and important.

I'm the former and I didn't like the guy's work. After him everyone had to have some stupid shtick- which brought the pestilence of Neil Everett upon us all...

How dumb will it look if the Bears hire Ballard. They need an advisor to hire a guy who was an employee for over 10 yrs.

Dan needs the WSJ to tell him that a good running game and controlling the clock increases a team's chance of winning? This is highly disappointing for supposedly Very Smart Radio.

I thought I would give Wheezie and BoBo a listen since I am now Gameless.

2 things I hear:

Running backs are now important because Dan read an article from the WSJ saying so. Who knew that running the football helps you win games?

People need to stop with the Ted Phillips bashing. He's "not involved in football operations"??????

Click.

Loved McNown when the Bears picked him too. Also couldn't wash the balls of Emery, Trestman , Marshall and Cutler fast enough when they were signed. Suffice it to say their track record on guys they love isn't very good.

So Accorsi would take Leaf over Manning; and Elway (who would rather play baseball than play for your team) over Marino or Kelly. I've got a bad feeling about this.

He did one hell of a job with the Giants though, including the quarterback.

The idea that you are forever stupid if you thought Leaf may be better than Manning is really dumb. Clearly wrong but every person has thoughts that prove to be incorrect.
