Who knew you have/had evangelistic tendencies?!? How else could you have been on THAT emailing list

Even some here think its....something (in fairness, I've never read here how it's funny). Instead of seeing it for the sophomoric attempt at humor that it weakly is, they (even here) wrap themselves as victims in the perceived assault on "their" jointly cherished freedom of speech?!? It isn't a question so much of freedom of speech as it seems to be free to be an ass to others without consideration or consequence.

It's kind of looking like the debate we have around here about some not being able to use the N-word or other ethnic/religious slurs in polite (or even mixed) company. Is it just because (the generic) YOU have been told not to that makes it so seductive? I really don't get it.

Not exactly on topic, but close enough. I got this email on 5/9/10. The subject of the email was "going beyond disrespect". Here is the body of the email:

Going beyond disrespect
|
| The movie " Corpus Christi " is due to be released this June to August. A disgusting film set to appear in America later this year depicts Jesus and his disciples as homosexuals! As a play, this has already been in theatres for a while. It's called " Corpus Christi " which means "The Body of Christ". It's revolting mockery of our Lord. But we can make a difference. That's why I am sending this e-mail to you. If you do send this around, we just might be able to prevent this film from showing in America . Let's stand for what we believe in and stop the mockery of Jesus Christ our Savior. Where do we stand as Christians? At the risk of a bit of inconvenience, I'm forwarding this to all I think would appreciate it, too. Please help us prevent such offenses against our Lord. There is no petition to sign, no time limit, or minimum number of people to send this to.. It will take you less than 2 minutes! If you are not interested and do not have the 2 minutes it will take to do this, please don't complain when God does not have time for you because He is far busier than we are. Hey, it's worth a shot! Apparently, some regions in Europe have already banned the film. All we need is a lot of prayer and a lot of e-mails.

JUST GET THE WORD OUT

It's okay to mock Mohammad, but don't mock Jesus. Granted, I don't think anybody who sent that email wants to shoot 12 people, but it's funny to see what happens when the shoe is on the other foot.

I knew someone would post something like this, but it doesn't prove any point, no one was shot and killed, no one was stabbed to death in the street like Teo Van Gogh, there weren't fire bombings or beheading or kidnappings or a call to slaughter all that oppose Jesus Christ and depict him as a homosexual. You admitted that yourself. There was simply a group of people that sent out some emails that you apparently save for situations such as this. So there really isn't a shoe on the other foot, you received an email about a movie asking you to send an email to other people. And again, the latest attack in Paris was not due to someone posting an image mocking Mohammed.

There have been plenty of media and such that depicted Christ/Christianity in a not too flatter light since 2010 yet here we are, some people send an email out or write a letter to the editor like an angry Grandpa Simpson shaking his fist at the clouds.

ZERO moral equivalence here. Zero equivalence of any kind. Not even comparable, no shoes, no socks, no sandals, no feet wrapped in old newspapers...not even John McClain's bare feet jacked up with glass.

It's sad when otherwise good liberals get all underdoggy and make excuses for Abrahamic monotheism's retarded bastard son.

I would say my closest example would be when that artist years ago did the "art" piece of the crucifix in a jar of piss. Sure there was outrage and possibly protests or even condemnation. Not a person was killed or injured that I am aware.

If people here can show me that equivalency with the religion of peace idiots then I will be glad to read that. No we get a media and governments from around the globe stammering to call this what it was. Terror and murder. The radicals have been telling you what they are going to do. They have done it and will keep on doing so.

I will give them one bit of respect even if appalling. As compared to western governments and people they stand by what they believe and do what they say. Right or wrong.

Lastly, make no mistake those ISIS/Al Qeda radical types would cut your fucking head off tonight if they could.

Standing for something is appealing to people. Especially if you are willing to give your life for it.

Europeans once offered culture, art, philosophy and a Judeo-Christain way of life.

Now all they offer is the ridicule of others.

The principle of ridiculing others isn't a principle.

the episode "201" from south park was edited and censored due to threats of the same kind of violence. we backed down too. and made the same exact joke. there was a possible car bomb attempt allegedly connected to the situation.

Your post was a total failure.

Perhaps you could post up an angry letter to some magazine from 6 years ago? Or maybe you have some other years old lame email you saved that you could post to show us that Christians are just like those Muslims from the Paris attacks when it comes to their deities?

Try, try, try again.

Wow. Anderson Cooper must have gotten on a plane hours after this happened. He's there now. It's 2:30 am in Paris so can't get many guests. But he'll probably be there all week.

I take that back. He's gotten 2 guests already.

This was your third attempt at responding, and this is the best you can do? You repeated what I said (not exact thing, and Christians don't respond by shooting), and then told me I was wrong.

Just say no!

Drawing a lampoon of islam is stupid. All it's going to do is piss people off.
Doing so, however, should not be a death sentence.
Killing someone for a joke is probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in my life.

I say this all the time, but you can't tell me that Jesus didn't have a sense of humor. Is it so crazy to think that he'd giggle when he farted or would call a buddy over to admire a really nice turd he took? He was just a guy. I mean, is anyone other than Seacrest completely humorless?

And would Mohammad be any different? Did he not laugh about anything?

If not, what a miserable experience.

NBC said 1 dead, 2 in custody at 5:30.

Not clear on that now.

AP just reported 18 year old turned himself in. But others are saying that guy isn't the guy. It's a diversion tactic to keep them off the scent.

That's not really the point though, is it? Whether the parodies are funny or not is immaterial. If you want a free society, you must allow unfunny and offensive speech. If it were anyone but Muslims killing over these perceived offenses nobody would be attempting to justify it.

I'm not one to mock another person's faith regardless of how silly I made find it, but when part of your faith is the subjugation of women and death to those you consider "infidels", perhaps you could use a response that goes quite a bit beyond mockery.

Just saw a woman on the news make a great point. The whole point of these actions by radical Islamists making terror is to stifle dialogue. There is no dialogue. It is just like Israel and Palestine. Israel will give you this/Palestine will send rockets. Israel will give you that/Palestine will send rockets and suicide bomb a bus. There can be no reasoning with people that give no ground or respect to another's stance. Like arguing with some here.

Family Guy (like South Park before them) has done a million Christianity jokes

There's an episode where Jesus ressurects River Phonenix and they do blow til River dies again.

The Muslim Christianity comparisons get more ridiculous with each of these tragedies

Just reiterating what I said earlier in the thread. Not at you directly. Christians get mad at the "art" of crucifix in a piss jar and minor things get argued. Draw a cartoon of Mohammed and you get dead. It is not the same.
