"I dunno" - Mike from Milwaukee

I did notice Meat deflate a little when Dan kind of "It's not even that"'d the Ice Bowl article. Matt brought it up and said it was a fun read. Then Dan cut in to make sure everyone got the Important Takeaway from the nostalgia article about a game that happened 50 years ago. You see Lambeau had heating coils that weren't working.

Let's meditate on how that affected the calculus, or something.

Out of the car now but found the end of the midday show interesting with talk from Mannelly about cold weather affecting warm weather teams. Silence on that topic during transition, and I loved how Meat jabbed Beerstain about lawyering his sources. Dan's deep throat source is the guy hearing "big voice" in the room, the room that doesn't exist and the voice that definitely wasn't present.

yikes, that's a nice nut for 2 weeks of work

re manelly saying warm weather teams dont like the cold... is it not fact based on game results that warm weather/dome teams stink when playing in the cold? That is independant of the "bear weather" narrative that B&B despise.... at one time tampa had a 40 game losing streak in sub 40 degree weather that was only broken because their 2002 super bowl winning squad played henry burris and the bears in champaign and won 16-0 or soemthing like that

It's also fact based that teams generally play better at home than on the road. Does data support a significant variance to the overall road winning percentage?

well, that didn't take long. Marshall is gone "if the next coach agrees to get rid of him". So your statement means nothing.

Brett Favre is from Mississippi, and he kicked ass in cold weather.

Yeah, it definitely doesn't matter where someone grew up and went to college. Rodgers and Elway from CA, "Chicago Tough" Jim McMahon grew up in CA, played at BYU.

It's also tough to separate it from home field advantage and the fact that franchises like TB sucked no matter where they played for the first 20 years of their existence.

The argument would be for teams that practice and play in warm weather or indoors and are built for a fast track have to travel to cold climate with treacherous footing. The bad footing in the Ice Bowl definitely hurt the younger, faster Cowboys against the more veteran Packers team. Cowboys had guys like former Olympic sprinter Bob Hayes at wide out, but it's hard to sprint on ice.

Al Davis complained to Pete Roselle that the Steelers grounds crew intentionally left ice outside the hashmarks for a playoff game in the 1970's. Roselle said both teams have to play on it. Davis argued that Oakland had faster wide outs and ran more vertical routes outside the hashes

http://blackandgoldworld.blogspot.com/2 ... elers.html

-- The following season, the Steelers and Raiders met again for the right to go to the Super Bowl. But this game was played at ice-cold Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. The temperature that day was 17 degrees with a wind-chill factor of minus 10.
“The ice may have been worse than the cold, especially the ice along the sidelines,” said Madden, who insinuated that the Steelers’ grounds crew created this icy situation on purpose in an effort to slow down the Raiders’ passing attack.
