Ya know....I keep listening to them, but I haven't decided if I actually like them. I definitely like "Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck)," and I generally find their work interesting, but I'm not sure where I stand on them just yet.

I guess I'd say I have an intellectual appreciation for what they're doing--and that they're good at it--but I'm not sure if I actually find their music enjoyable, moving or significant.

they played in 2013, so i doubt it. plus they've gotten bigger than that, weren't they at Lollapalooza last year ?

Really? I had no idea Run the Jewels was that big. I'm old.

Only listened thru once. It was good enough. The lyrical content was good. I wasnt blown away but I think its the type of album you need to really get into.

This is kind of where I am. Although, I definitely think its significant.

I was the same way with Tyler the Creator and Wolfgang. I like it, I enjoy listening to it once (to hear what they're saying and how they're doing it), but not repeatedly. But not too many of the songs end up in my permanent rotation

Run the Jewels might headline Pitchfork. I mean they are certainly no bigger than Kendrick, right?

slow down, they aren't headlining Pitchfork

they are in fact pretty popular right now, but that would be an awfully big reach i think...

Im just not sure what you're saying.

I dont know how these fests are ranked by prestige or whatever. Are they too big for Pitchfork or too small?

RTJ will get a lot more $$ and attention at bigger fests this year.
They can play Lolla along with Weird Al.

I guess my confusion is at the time 2013 Pitchfork was announced Kendrick was probably more popular than RTJ is right now (both at the top of the hip hop game). So why wouldnt that apply to Kendrick last year?

i get what you're saying...I mean Kendrick played Pitchfork a few years earlier as a mid-tier act, then comes back to headline after he blew up
so i suppose its possible RTJ could do that...i just don't really feel as if they're a true "headliner", you know ? I mean RTJ is popular , yes, but i think some perspective is needed. they just played Metro not too long ago ...could you ever imagine Kendrick playing Metro ??

Steely Dan should headline Pitchfork this year.

Oh ok, I get it. So its kinda like this

Headline Lolla
Headline Pitchfork

RTJ somewhere in between

Play Lolla as middle act
Play pitchfork as middle act

I've yet to go to Pitchfork, but have considered it for a few years now. Steely Dan will instantly defer that decision for a year.

i'm not sure i get your sequence there...but Pitchfork's general formula is obviously to have the majority of the bands be lesser-known (relatively)
if you think about it, they've had a ton of (now) bigger names who played early on in the day , including Kendrick.

and yes, Lolla is 100x bigger, so often groups will "graduate" from Pfork to Lolla, as RTJ did and many other bands
in fact, i just double checked because i wasn't 100% sure, but RTJ did in fact play Lolla last year, as a mid-tier band

I would rather watch any of the circus acts or DJs on the Blue Stage than hear one note of that.

poor squarepusher.... man, not only does his new album get overshadowed by ~173 vintage unreleased aphex twin tracks going out for free a couple'a months earlier, but he has to hang out at coachella all day friday no doubt hating life before he goes on the gobi stage at 10:50 and dons the video helmet to tweak out the new album for the combined ~10-25 people there who still care about squarepusher.

RIDE got the shaft.
Playing in a tent during sunlight.
I'd love to see Dreams Burn Down or Leave Them All Behind on the big stage with a light show.

yea a little weird, it looks like about half the sets are truly airing live and the other half are later on. they don't start showing stuff until ~5:30 all 3 days, i could have sworn last year they started way earlier in the afternoon.
