what passes for country music on the radio today is not really music. its calculated sound to generate money.

It's not country. It's pop music with violins and banjos.

Saw that vid yesterday.
Butt/Bro Rock with a twang.
Florida Georgia Line are one of the worst perpetrators of this genre.
I fucking hate those douchebags.

In fairness, anything being played on any radio station pretty much sounds the same as the other 6-7 songs in each station's rotation.

...as a result I've found myself listening to WBBM-AM more than I ever thought I would.

Yeesh, that is pretty bad. Judging by the pics I've seen those shows are a great place for good looking tail though.

There are certain commonalities shared by most hit records. The "songwriters" and record companies know exactly what they are and the songs are written accordingly, often using computers to do so. It's like SABRmetrics for music.

I think country producers would take pride in that. Music as assembly-line product is a very American ethos. Think of all that perfecting and evolving!

Let's go burn ole Nashville down
Set it all aflame
BBQ the greedheads
Made country weak and tame
Burn burn Nash Vegas
Char it's rancid soul
Burn burn Branson too
Make a big black hole

Country music is killing itself
Tryin' to be what it ain't
Garth Brooks sells as many as Manilow
Lee Greenwood is a saint
Burn burn Jimmy Bowen
Damn your puny soul
Burn burn Jimmy Bowen
Country can't be sold

Any fool can wear a hat
And not move when they play
But the lonesome howl of the white trash wolf
Can't be heard today
Burn burn the fake cowboys
The Vegas showbiz shit
Burn burn Branson too
Sold your soul for a hit

Let's go burn ole Nashville down
Burn it to the ground
Let's go burn ole Nashville down
Save the country sound
Burn burn soulless swine
Crossover igit pukes
Burn burn lyin' cheaters
Country don't have flutes

Nashville session drummer Tommy Wells referred to it as C3 (cookie cutter country) or Nashville pop.

I think some real old-timers would tell you that there's no such thing as a country drummer.
Of course, I don't agree.

We played on a bill with this band in Memphis. This drummer must have been 90 years old at the time. His name was Ringo. We spent the night at the bass player's place. He lived in a big house with three or four cute girls. He's a pretty famous guy down in Memphis. His name is Ron Easley, but he sometimes used the stage name "Durand Mysterion".

Awesome. Those drumsticks are huge! I love how those old-school guys are so attached to their gear - drummers that play with the same sticks/heads for 20+ years.

I like to listen to country music while I go eat breakfast at a diner.
