i'll trade Micah Johnson for Baez and EJax. LOL.

Micah Johnson won't be able to really hit, but when he transitions to the OF he'll be a good defender there and has fantastic pinch running skills. I wouldn't do it, throw in Danks and have the Cubs eat his salary and sure.

Just wondering if you are sick yet about hearing the Micah Johnson story? He isnt even int he Sox top 10 prospects at age 23?

Sounds a little like Sox fans have been sold a bill of goods by guys like Rongey, who as I sit here now, I am listening to him talk about the close ties to the Royals organization between the Sox and Royals? hmm?

Guys definitely ahead of Micah Johnson in the Sox system:

Carlos Rodon
Tim Anderson
Spencer Adams
Tyler Danish
Frank Montas

I put Cleuluis Rondon and Trey Michalczewski ahead of him too.

After that? You gotta slide Micah in unless you're delusionally clinging onto hope that Matt Davidson is anything (he's as bad as Javier Baez...at Charlotte) or really still believing in Courtney Hawkins. So Micah Johnson is Top 10, which is partially an indictment of the White Sox farm system but mostly just a product of the type of player he is. His age also isn't a concern of mine, he's a college draftee so he got a late MiLB start.

Here's my problems with Micah Johnson, and they are equal parts my faith in his projectability and what apparently the org expects of him in 2015.

Let's start with the player he is. If everything goes right with him he's about Billy Hamilton, with a few wrinkles I'll go into in a minute. Now I know what you're about to say " America, you mangey, retarded whore! Billy Hamilton is a 3 WAR player! That's really good!"

To which I will reply: you know how slim Billy Hamilton's margin of error is? The guy loses so much as a step and he's replacement level or worse. He sits right on the ridge separating 'pretty good' from 'glue factory.' Something goes wrong with him and he's toast.

We're talking about Micah Johnson here, who has proven absolutely diddly shit at the MLB level. There's no guarantee Johnson will ever find the point Hamilton is at, I mean it's so unlikely Hamilton found that level I cannot imagine it's even remotely probable that Micah will. Take away his minor league short stops, crummy infields and those odd bounces that buy him the half second he needs to pull IF hits off and what is he? A .250 hitter? If he's lucky? OBP of maybe .300? If he's not going to hit for power I ain't got time for that shit. Dayan Viciedo can beat those numbers plus hit 25 taters a year, defense and baserunning be damned.

The Sox apparently want him as the full time 2B next year. It's a recipe for disaster. It feels like a "we won't got shit better so throw the kid out there", and I'm like "MARCUS SEMIEN ARE YOU ON METH PLAY THAT GUY!" It's not going to work. Johnsons not that good. I could say more but I'm tired of typing.

Baez with 3 hits and 2 more RBI in last night's 6-4 win over the Brewers.

I don't know about that. Isn't BABIP a pitcher's stat that we expect to normalize around .300 rather than a batter's stat where a low BABIP might simply suggest a lousy hitter?

The Sox have always been fascinated with premium base stealers in the leadoff spot, whether they can actually hit their way on or not be damned.

I've seen it used both ways, though I see your point.

Some slappy, poor contact hitters are bound to have a lower BABIP.

But Baez isn't a slappy hitter.

But I believe the slappy guys are generally the ones with the highest BABIP. I know for a fact that if we are categorizing by type of ball in play, bunts have the highest BABIP.

And weak hits have the lowest, and fly balls are mid range, and line drives have the highest.

It's too early to call Baez a bust (unless you are a moron), but the frequency of strikeouts continues to be an issue. Even if the rate has decreased slightly. With Coghlan, Castro, Rizzo, Soler and Bryant, the Cubs will have a pretty nice lineup next season. Alcantara does not look like anything but a utility guy at this point to me. But he does have speed and nice versatility. Bryant changes everything once he's called up in May and the fun really begins. Still, I have hope that Baez can still make the needed adjustments and be a part of this core going forward.

What are your expectations for Bryant? Im laughing at this supposed guaranteed to be a stud player. Wasn't Bryce Harper just as heralded and he hasn't broken .275 for a full season yet.

I heard that yesterday.

I was hoping it wouldn't be a Cub winning the Adam Dunn Offseason Optimism Award.

You give Baez multiple chances to fail. Infield power like that doesn't come around that often, especially in today's game. Sure he may bust out, but the payout is worth the gamble.

As others have stated, just his defense alone is a big time upgrade for the Cub. Wouldn't you rather have Baez as your late inning defensive replacement over Castro?

What power? He showed he has the power to K and look like someone who has never held a bat before. But at least he won the "Tearing Up the Minors" award and "Sound of the Swing" award.

When he connects, he connects big time. Even if he comes up and struggles mightily, he still has the ability to run into one every now and then and he's ten times the defender that Castro is.

If I could get a few years of UGGLA like performance at the plate, I'd take that and never look back.

Actually, in August he would still have the 5th best OPS.

1 Schwarber, K CHC C 16 57 22 16 2 0 7 19 10 19 1 1 .281 .400 .684 1.084
2 Rizzo, A CHC 1B 17 60 11 19 4 0 5 16 8 12 1 0 .317 .417 .633 1.050
3 Bryant, K CHC 3B 17 58 9 19 3 1 3 8 10 22 2 0 .328 .443 .569 1.012
4 Fowler, D CHC CF 17 67 15 20 6 2 3 8 13 18 1 1 .299 .415 .582 .997
5 Coghlan, C CHC LF 15 45 9 13 0 2 3 10 3 8 2 0 .289 .333 .578 .911

The rest of the guys "only" have a .700 OPS

6 Russell, A CHC 2B 17 61 10 16 4 1 2 6 2 13 0 0 .262 .292 .459 .751
7 Soler, J CHC RF 16 57 5 16 1 0 1 13 7 15 1 0 .281 .364 .351 .715
8 Montero, M CHC C 9 28 4 6 2 0 1 3 4 8 0 0 .214 .313 .393 .705

Baez' multi hit streak ended at 7 after a 1-4 performance yesterday. This guy can still provide a huge impact to the Cubs offense, and defense at 2B.
