I like when he talks to chairs.

I can't stand political conventions. Really just idiocy on both sides.

I like the movies he made with Clyde the Orangutan.

Never saw a one. Heartbreak Ridge had some really good dialogue. The Marines weren't too pleased about it, though.

There’s three different kinds of people in the world: sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. Sheep are followers, wolves prey on the weak, and sheepdogs protect the flock.

....it's so mean and sad that our military is killing THE ENEMY THAT IS SHOOTING AT THEM AND KILLING THEIR BROTHERS!
.....but they're not the same race or religion as them so it means they're racist..........REALLY? A new talking point but it may be the dumbest.

It doesn't matter if you agree with the politicians who decided to go to a particular war....the soldiers are there because it 's their job and they made the sacrifice to protect us AND their fellow soldier. DUH...

I'm glad we have "sheepdogs" protecting my nephew in the Marines. I don't give a fuck if they called the enemy a bad name.

Its not their job to keep re-enlisting while having kids at home.

Yes, 180 or 255 deaths is sad no matter what the circumstances. Im sorry that you cant see that.

If you want to give military people a pass for using slurs, that's fine. Not sure anyone in this thread has mentioned language. I know I havent.

Why is not best for the kids? Not every military person is on the front lines of a war. People have to make a living, some do it traveling around the country or world all of the time in sales, some in the military....

I dont think being away from your kids for long periods of time is the best way to go about parenting but Im pretty much only talking about people who are going to be in serious danger of losing your life.

I really don't think you can sit here and start questioning his parenting just because he is in the military. It's easy to comment from the sidelines, but parents do what they have to.

Do you feel the same way about cops or firefighters? How about people people who travel for work? What about people who hire nannies to raise their kids?

Im not judging him for being in the military.

Im judging him for continuing to go back when he didnt have to. And if he wanted to be a lifer, then dont have kids.

As dangerous as it is to be a cop or fireman its not on the same level as choosing to go back to a war. At least, imo.

And I think travelling a lot for work is not the best situation for a kid but you do what you gotta do. It seems like this guy had less dangerous options (whether he knew it or not)

After his fourth tour he threw in the towel. The movie shows him becoming a very good dad and giving back to
other vets at home.

It's probably not hard being a good dad to a plastic baby:

Yeah, the fake baby really bothered my fiancée. I found it a little awkward but pretty inconsequential to
the movie.

I don't mean for this to be so serious but I'm really shocked people have thoughts like that.

"....continuing to go back when he didn't have to"
Obviously you didn't mean that as a compliment but that right there is reason enough to realize what a true hero this guy was.
Think about how many US soldiers are alive because he "kept going back".

"....then don't have kids"
Wow really. So I assume you believe anyone in the military with a kid is a bad person - that's really not understanding reality.
My father was in the army and served in combat missions so I guess I'm offended by that.

"....then don't have kids"
I don't know your political thoughts but I'd be shocked if the don't have kids applies to other life situations people are in?

Your assumptions are wrong

(but just off the top, yes there are many situations where having kids is not the best idea. You disagree?)

I think there are certain lifestyles where having kids is a bad idea. A person who continually volunteers for life threatening work would be one of those situations. (Im sorry if this offends you and your family but its just how I feel)

This isnt just a guy working in the military. (And of course many people in the military are wonderful parents)

This is a guy who keeps voluntarily going back to combat. That's fine. Patriotic...Noble...Heroic even, make a movie about him.

No reason to have kids at home though. At least not at that time. Right? Im not saying the guy is the devil, but I think there were some questionable decisions made.

Is that really a controversial stance? Parents should try and be around for their kids and avoid life threatening situations?

I understand that some people dont have options. This guy had options (from what I understand)

I do agree there are many situations where people shouldn't have kids or continue to have multiple kids but I think being an elite of the elite member of the US military that can save many lives while risking yours is one where that is justified.

It was a really good movie and I''l tap out and leave it at that.
Now back to hating on the Score King and giggling at Cub obsessed Sox fans.

I can easily see how it came off that way. I dont think he's a bad parent. In fact from what TBone says sounds like he rounded into a good one.

I dont think the decisons to go back were the right ones but that doesnt mean he's a bad parent overall. I just have a hard time celebrating a guy like that (and decisons like that) without feeling horrible for his family

The guy's bravery and balls cannot be questioned

Maybe he was worried his nuts would get blown off in combat so he had a kid while he still could.

Seriously, that's a legit argument (thought it doesnt explain the going back)

They can't be. No question. Chris Kyle would easily be able to disarm and kill anyone who posts here. The slippery slope on that though is do we want to promote that? The higher ups love it and we still need it. My old man is 90 and ran up through Normandy until the end of the war. I don't want that for my son. Call me a hippie of sorts I guess but this kill or be killed mentality needs to be ended. It is kinda why the 50's are romanticized. We need to evolve but the Al Queda or the ISIS stuff make it really tough.
