I just listened to it. I can't be on TeamSpiegs because he is only pissy because it was directed at him. I agree with that. Spiegel is sensitive only when it comes to his own feelings. He has no sympathy for anyone else. He isn't angry because bernstein called Charlie Weiss fat. He's angry because he's fat and bernstein doesn't respect him.

I can't tell if he has an over inflated sense of self or not. I don't give a shit about his weight and I still don't respect him. I'm still pissed at Mac for picking his ass off the pile. Mitch never learns and has to be a complete dope. His inmates run that asylum.

There are some strong parallels between Bernstein and Richie Incognito. Berstein was all over Incognito for his workplace behavior, deeming his bullying reprehensible and needing to impact his professional career. Spiegs confronted the bully by questioning the authenticity and timeline of his sources, condescension towards his co-host, and something perhaps far closer, judging someone based upon appearances. Essentially trying to hit the triple of credibility, assholishness, and bigotry. Bernstein may claim it to be "an act" and whatever the conflict being good for ratings but this is the same arguments that Incognito used in defending his behavior, that he wasn't really what he was being characteracterized as and that it was for the good of the team.

Now I'm sure there are both some defenders of Bernstein and those who loathe Spiegel enough (as well as a select few who argue to argue) who can make a coutnerpoint. But as one who has been involved in HR matters before, Spiegel could go forward by making a claim to management that while not getting a public/on-air apology will result in Bernstein reigning in some of his words. Or Spiegel could go with a frontal attack and lay waste to whatever B&B claim as truth, set them up to have to defend themselves, and inviting more meatball callers to have them explain theirselves. He could take on the vanguard of making Bernstein's life more miserable by invinting in the kind of company/listeners that has him avoiding callers.

I thought Speigel came off as too angry while trying to make Bernstein confess to the supposed "back-tracking". Asking about the perceived contradiction in a more calm and straightforward manner would have been better suited for addressing it. Also, I would have given him more credit had he fired back about Bernstein's condescension when it actually happened. Clearly he has harbored his hurt feelings to the point of being unable to control them. I'm betting that Bernstein's calm response & thin-skinned comment further infuriates him.
