I know this isn't an original thought since I heard this on a podcast..... but I didn't copy it either

" The White Sox minor league teams have the WORST combined record of any organization...... 82-125."

Is that true?

Even if it was I thought we were trained to believe it does not matter as the good players are moving through the minor teams fluidly?

doesn't really matter, but it so happens that they have no decent prospects either. and by no I mean like 1 or 2.

The point of a minor league system is to bring young talent to the MLB team. I see plenty of young talent on a contending team. Little of it is home grown but you don't win a single trophy for having the most home grown players on a roster.

Not to mention that two home grown pieces were traded for Adam Eaton and Matt Davidson. Plus when you go out and get the best slugger in the AL, you can deal with not having an extra prospect or two 8)

Edwin Encarnacion plays for the White Sox?

I'm really very bullish on the White Sox over the next five years.

-Eaton, Gillaspie, Abreu, Sale, Quintana, Avi Garcia, among others, under team control for a while yet at relative bargain prices

-Danks and Dunn $ coming off the books soon, and Konerko retiring opens up another roster spot

-Development of Micah And Erik of the Johnson's in the minors

-Viceido and Alexi playing unquestionably the best ball of their MLB Careers so far. It could be argued the addition of Abreu caused this

I'll let dolphin handle the rest.

The discussion always has to begin with Sale. The Sox have the absolute most precious commodity in baseball: a true #1 pitcher locked in at low cost. They follow that up with Quintana, who has proven himself over 2.5 years to be high end middle of the order starter. He too is locked in at a favorable amount. This will allow them to gamble a little every single year on low cost free agents to fill in the rotation. Cooper has proven himself to be particularly adept with these guys.

Eaton looks (and really has been) a difference maker. I am fully sold on him even after half a season with my only concern being health.

Garcia displays All star level ability. I still don't know what they have in him but I think right now he is no less than a competent RF.

Abreu has been very impressive. He is not your normal power hitting oaf, like Dunn. He uses the entire field which shows a sophistication and ability that is unique, especially for someone in his first year.

Gillaspie is my guy and has been for two years. I still think he is probably a platoon player but I am comfortable with a guy who is going to hit RP at a .300 clip with good gap power.

That is a solid, young corps to work with, all of whom are relatively cheap, giving the team the coveted position of being able to fill in through free agency rather than having to buy the expensive top end talent in it.

I have specifically excluded Flowers and Viciedo as I am not sold on either despite success this year. I have also excluded relief pitchers like Jones, Webb and Petrictka as I am of the firm opinion that RP is a crapshoot from year to year.

-Add Gordon Beckham to the list of guys playing the best ball of their career list.

- They are going to add a very good pitcher to the organization next week.

the astros have george springer, who even as a flawed player with a ton of Ks is now up to 10hr (and making me look like a FOOL for having him in 7/9 leagues and cutting bait when he was like 5/48 with 1RBI and 1SB and now he's that shot in the arm all of my fantasy teams need and i only got him back in one league. sad.) and like, yeah, that and your avatar sucks so there is no argument here. the science is in. the astros are better than the white sox because they have george springer and the white sox have.... uhhh.... the resurgence of gordon beckham! and your avatar is boring. my face is a bird so your point is irrelevant. nobody rides pubtrans anyways. non-sequitur non-sequitur non-sequitur [vulgarity] punchline.

My guess/want is that Gillespie is Beckham's replacement at 2nd after a trade this mid season. We need more power than Connor at 3rd.

I don't think they are going to trade Beckham. I'm waiting for the reports that the two sides are working on a contract extension.

This is kind of understood but it really just rests on the health of Sale/Garcia/Eaton

If those guys stay healthy they'll be good. If not they probably wont.

This part is very similar to the things bigfan said regarding Chris Sale;
If those guys stay healthy they'll be good. If not they probably wont.

Astros are ahead of the Cubs:

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/hous ... hel-053014

Quote:
Entering Friday, the Houston Astros feature the longest winning streak in the majors — and a rookie slugger on a home-run tear.

Thursday's 3-1 victory over the visiting Baltimore Orioles was the Astros' sixth consecutive win. The streak started with the final two games of a four-game series in Seattle and included a three-game sweep in Kansas City. No, wait: Make that a clobbering of the Royals.

The Astros certainly earned their status as a punch line, losing 100-plus games in three consecutive campaigns. Before this season, the Astros had lost more games in the last three years than 15 different teams had lost in the last four.

The perception is that the Astros are an experiment, and the perception is that the experiment is a long ways from completion. The Astros still get no respect, and they had a miserable beginning to 2014.

But don't let the start and the history fool you. The Astros, 23-32 through Thursday, are actively shedding their losing reputation and are perhaps, no longer a punch line.

The Astros were going to get decent again at some point. That much was inevitable, and they've drawn praise from all corners for a deeply talented farm system. But the Astros, 14-13 in May, might be ahead of their own schedule.
