The Penn State sexual assault and sexual harassment task force, charged by President Eric Barron to elevate Penn State as a national leader in addressing sexual misconduct, has delivered its final report and made it available online today (Jan. 29). With a comprehensive set of 18 recommendations, the report notes the University needs a better-defined message surrounding sexual misconduct and a designated stand-alone office dedicated to the issue.

While addressing the issue and creating better guidelines are a good thing, maybe some other University could have been the "National Leader" on this issue?

Its like hiring Bernie Madoff as your investent advisor!

So, you are DBing us for trying to be proactive in an area where we had a serious scandal?
I think it is a good thing that we are trying to take something that was a huge black mark and turn it into something positive, helpful and useful for the future of Penn State and universities as a whole.

Should you try to do better? YES

Guess what, you shouldnt be the National Leader in an area that you got an F in for 40 years!

I also dont think going to Church to discuss possible child molestation charges from the the Boy Scouts is a good idea.

Things you do in life matter! and Guess what, Penn St will have that stigma for a LONG Time.

So just because the people before made mistakes and there are new people in charge doing these studies, they are not qualified? I have to be with Cory on this one.

once again...read what is written...NATIONAL LEADER.....they can do all the studies they want, they can create all the papers they want, right or wrong here isnt really something that is a question here. ( It was for a long time at Penn St.)

I think someone else should be taking the role of NATIONAL LEADER on the issue.

Pysc, you might not like that kind of name calling, but you are known for this at your school. You are known for it because it happened for a Long time.

Then DB every other school that didn't create a sexual assault taskforce to create guildelines on how to deal with sexual assault. Don't DB the school that is actually trying to do something positive.

I am not going to Spiegel for weight loss advice, even though he has been proactive in the area he has had a serious problem for years as well, but I give him credit for trying.

Once again, when you change the rhetoric and claim I said they shouldnt be trying to do something, then your point sounds good.

But when I want the National Leader on the issue, its not Penn St.

This logic is so odd to me. Learning from a scandal leads to Penn State being proactive on addressing sexual miscounduct but we can't be too proactive because we shouldn't be a leader on how to deal with this problem because we had a huge scandal under the previous regime.
Anyway, I'm off to class to teach everyone how great Paterno was, how it wasn't his fault, and to chant 409 or something (because that's all we do here, right? )

I get what BF is saying. I think
This is like Martha Stewart saying she is a leader in the crusade against insider trading.
Keep up the good work PSU (seriously) but let somebody else declare themselves the leader.

Those who got caught yes.

The vast number of people that were involved on the financial side , funding programs for kids, that if you want to tell me had no knowledge of this...BUllshit!

The place was as dirty as can be and a dirty organization, The NCAA gave them an EASY out. It was all about money.

The one thing I will agree with, was the NCAA kiling or suspending the football team, should not have anything to do with it.

If you want to believe this crap went on for 25+ years at a school like that, were everyone knows everyone elses business and nobody said anything until an asst coach came forward, well I think it is a naive thinking.

This doesnt mean you dont try to ensure that things are better, but dont need you as the National leader on the issue!

I think the issue is there is no logic to being at odds with their pronouncement.

A lot can learned from the mistakes that were made at Penn St and who better than them to learn from them and pass on that knowledge through better programs for themselves, and others.

didnt type it and claiming I did is foolish.

Penn State as a national leader in addressing sexual misconduct

Don't think THIS is a good idea.

It's great that, presumably, Penn State has taken it upon themselves to significantly course-correct.

That said, I would say it's an entirely reasonable reaction for one to find it a bit 'awkward' to have Penn State (presumably) hope to be "the leader" in regards to addressing sexual misconduct.
