Thoughts and prayers with Hall of Famer Stan Mikita. Family says he is facing "serious health issues" - suspected Lewy Body dementia

Think Alzheimer's with a few other delightful bells and whistles. I've witnessed it work its magic from start to finish. I suspect that being brutally murdered by ISIS on video is a significantly better way to go.

I'm a really bad guy. I haven't heard of the phrase 'lewy body' so I thought of lower body injuries with hockey and thought it was weird dementia is clasified as lower body.

Yeah, watching it now, tend to agree.

If anybody watched "Boss" on Starz starring Kelsey Grammer, that was the disease he was afflicted with while serving as Mayor of Chicago.

Not a bad series but was cancelled after the second season abruptly.

The mayor character had a hidden camera installed in his office because he couldn't remember who he told what to - all the while trying to keep the disease a secret.

He would have to play back the videos of himself after someone would ask him a question or remind him of a phone conversation they had with him.

Brutal disease. Thoughts & prayers for the Mikitas.

I hope the Blackhawks are helping his family with bills (if needed). He is one of the greatest players I ever watched in any sport. It seems like off the ice he was a great guy too! My prayers to him & his family.

Got to meet him once when I caddied in a Michael Jordan celebrity tournament. He and Jim
Rice were the celebs in my group with a couple young execs from Gatorade. Wish I could
say I enjoyed the day a bit more but I carried the two execs bags and don't remember them
hitting it either in the fairway or the same direction very often. Made for a long round, but
Mikita hit the hell out of the ball for a smaller guy and seemed very nice.

My grandma dealt with this for a couple years before passing away Monday. By the end it well past time to go, the quality of life was zero. Imagine being confused and scared all the time cause you have no idea what's going on or who anyone is.

I would want to have Bigfan's one bullet if that happened to me to be honest.

:| grandma went through that too. horrible, she was the best cook in history, but by the end she couldnt even remember is lasagna had cheese in it or not.

my grandpa, 90, is now starting to lose it mentally too. physically helping him to the bathroom and around the house is the easy part. answering the same questions and listening to him trying to tell us things is unbearable.

This horrible disease is what killed my beautiful Mother on January 7, 2014.

Very sad for the great Stan Mikita and his family.

This very subject was featured on today's 700 Club. Regardless of how you feel about all things faith, I have heard of people changing their diet & lifestyle resulting in positive health. Obviously, this four minute video is the exception and not the norm. Nevertheless, I found this story timely and interesting. My sympathies to all who have been affected by this unforgiving disease.
