I played Destiny for a couple hours last night. Lots of fun although I have no idea WTF i'm doing. Got to level 7. I get worked in multiplayer and I keep doing the Old Russia Patrol/Bounty Missions. Maybe I shoudl be advancing the story more? I'm an RPG grinder at heart.

Have you unlocked the moon yet?

I just did last night. Knocked out a couple missions (rescuing the sword iirc) is where I'm at with the story. Went back and completed 5 or 6 patrol missions etc. Moon is a fun zone for sure.

Right on...well keep plugging away at the moon and you'll unlock Venus, which is probably my favorite of the locations in the game.

Done any strikes yet?

edit: one more thing...what class you playing as?

I went with Warlock. Not sure why, just did.

What's a strike? I've gotten involved on a few of the random events at the locations and got my ass kicked as a level 10 dude, but they are fun.

The game is a blast so far, really enjoying it.

#WarlockMasterClass...that's why. :D

Strikes are a series of scripted encounters, for up to three players, that closely resemble the missions/levels of previous FPS games but culminate in a final boss battle (who, almost always, is nothing more than a giant bullet sponge). Most of the areas involved are ones you have already played, albeit with different enemy encounters. However each one ends up at an area you normally don't go to during regular missions or patrols (whether it be just a lair for the boss, or a large area leading up to said boss.) Seeing as you are on the moon now, you have access to at least one strike on Earth (which is one of the better ones, IMO). It shows up as a blue shield looking icon on the director.

If you stick with this game, you'll end up looking forward to the weekly reset and the rush to complete the Nightfall Strike each Tuesday, like I'm about to do now. 8)

Wasn't a big fan of only three people in strikes. Maybe it was too much WoW and being used to 5, but it was too hard to overcome one poor teammate in 3. Obviously you can just quit the group, but still felt lame.

The only time I would ever want more than 3 people would be a nightfall strike. Otherwise I'd say everything else is easy enough where 3 people, even with one person who isn't helping for shit (just carried a fucker that was on a conference call most of the time through it), seems to be fine.

Well I was usually the one not helping for shit, so I had that going for me.

Been there. Pretty sure my first two or three nightfall completions consisted of two people properly leveled doing all the work while my underleveled ass hid in a corner and survived in case they died so they could go to orbit and rejoin.

I am. A lot of fun. Started doing strikes. Completed Moon, Venus and Earth strikes so far. They are crazy. Lots of running and hiding so I don't get wrecked.

I think I'm up to level 18 now.

Any advice on the Voidwalker vs. Sunslinger?

From what I've read, Voidwalker seems more PVE and Slinger more PVP. I'm sure it's more complicated than that. The self rez and power up seem silly OP, but I'm sure there are downsides.

I don't know anything about the game, but read the article anyway.

Does any of this apply to you yet Lipid? Do you feel it on the horizon?

Up until the DLC, I was almost always running Sunsinger in PvE, due to the self res being a life saver in things like the Nightfall Strikes and Vault of Glass. However, the exotic helmet Obsidian Mind lets you recycle super energy on Nova Bomb kills, which makes the Voidwalker crazy OP when facing multiple groups of enemies. I still use the Sunsinger when I'm running anything solo or when reviving is disable, but I'd be more likely to use a Voidwalker in other PvP circumstances.

As for PvP, I'd almost always run Voidwalker. Nova Bomb is great for killing multiple enemies, especially in Control and Salvage where enemies will group up in named locations. The self res in PvP more often than not turns into a quick second kill for the person who killed you the first time. The only time I would use Sunsinger in PvP is if I have a bounty for getting grenade kills...two fusion grenades are glorious. 8)

I want to read the entire thing before properly responding (that's a big fucking article) but I'll say that I am playing slightly less than when the game came out...but by that I mean 4 or 5 hours a night versus 6 or 7.

I really think a lot of it has to do with having a regular group of dedicated players to run stuff with. The days where I'm going solo usually end after 2 or 3 hours...the days where I'm running strikes and raids with friends will easily go 5 to 6 and if it's a weekend and I have all day free, I easily hit double digit hours.

Took the time to read this in it's entirety.

Certainly can't fault the guy for feeling this way, and I know some people who are there or on the way as well (one dude in my regular raid group has been playing Shadow of Mordor pretty much all week). He makes many legit criticisms of the game (many which I share) that need to be fixed sooner rather than later.

Ultimately it boils down to this. I think my tolerance for running the same thing over and over again with little to no reward is just a lot higher than others. I think I've made it well known that I played Reach on again off again for the better part of two years simply to run Firefight missions over and over again, getting little xp at the end of each encounter to help unlock armor that is nothing more than visual flair.

I'm cool with grinding when the activities I'm doing are fun to me because it doesn't feel like grinding. Popping a headshot in a vandal, thrall exploder and cabal are disturbingly satisfying to me. Not as much as fighting the elites in Halo, but I don't know if anything ever will be.

If I was spending a large chunk of every day playing the mission he refers to in order to grind out glimmer, I'd probably be burnt out too. Thing is, there are other ways which may be less efficient to earn it but I guarantee are a lot more enjoyable (Nightfall strikes, ROC strike playlist, other missions with similar respawn mechanics).

So yeah, as I said before, I'm playing slightly less than I was a few months ago, but I'm still not feeling like I'm going to be walking away from this any time soon.

Up to 25 now. Still enjoying the hell out of it. The last story battle with the Black Garden was fucking intense!

Running lvl 24 raids for the time being to get better gears.

PVE>PVP as is the case in 99% of games.

Glad to hear it...I'd play the Black Garden over and over again just to hear that trio of musical pieces during the boss fight.

Being level 25, you are almost ready for the Vault of Glass...many would say (me included) it's the most entertaining and enjoyable thing in the game...I prefer it over the newer raid in almost every way.

Those strike playlists are a great way to level up...if you can, try to do level 26 strikes...you'll get awarded an engram at the end of each strike as a reward...sometimes it will give you a legendary, which could get you up to level 31 if it's an armor piece you need.

Well, i used to be a WoW guy so that's largely where that opinion was formed.

Well, i used to be a WoW guy so that's largely where that opinion was formed.

LOTRO was the only MMO I knew of with any decent PVP. And they had to fiddle with the system to get it to work.

Age of Conan, SWTOR and other games were designed with PVP in mind and fell flat.

And MMO's in general are pretty bad now.

But there are other ways to get PVP taken care of now, including Evolve, the greatest multiplayer game in the last half decade, easy.

So, I've been stuck on 24 for a few days now. Should I just sack up and buy the expansion? I feel getting access to level 26 raids would help a lot.

I've been very unlucky with my decoding and haven't gotten a single legendary yet.

Can almost buy my first piece of Vanguard gear

Fuck I forgot that the level 26 strike playlist was DLC exclusive. (Bungie pls  )

Buy the DLC if you want but you can still level up to 31 without it...keep leveling up your Vanguard and Cryptarch. At level 3 and every level after, you'll get a reward package. The Cryptarch likes to troll with a lot of blues but sometimes he gives purples. The Vanguard is usually good for a legendary weapon or piece of armor (though there are times where they pull some 'commendation, shard, energy, glimmer' bullshit that makes me want to kick Ikora in the stomach)

Dan,

Not sure how many strange coins you've stumbled upon in your travels thus far, but there's a fella by the name of Xur who will be chillin' in the tower until very early Sunday morning. If you've got 13 strange coins, these lovely garments can be yours:

Image

They'll instantly grant you 30 light right out of the gate...fully upgraded, 36...not sure what chest piece you are rocking now, but I'd have to think this alone would get you a 1 or 2 level boost instantly.

Also, spawning with grenade energy is an insane perk in PvP.

At the very least, if you are in short supply of heavy ammo synthesis packs, he's selling them 5 for 1 coin...it's a crazy insane deal and the entire Destiny community lost it's shit at 3 AM this morning when they found out he was selling them since it's been something like 5 or 6 weeks since he last offered them.

I'm playing Destiny on Xbox One...so sadly, I can't be of help. However, if you are ever in need of people to run with...

https://www.destinylfg.net/

You can search through posts with people who are doing various activities and looking for groups/people to join. You can filter it down to specific parts of specific activities. I've had mostly good results with grouping up with people on there.

And if you ever find yourself wanting to join a clan...well...

I missed having a game system and now have a PS/4. I'm dying to play the original Resident Evil just because. Waiting for 2015 MLB so I can take the Cubs to a World Series...
