Agreed. You have to credit Belichick too. They practiced for that play and Butler was beat in practice on the same play. When they saw the formation he knew what was coming and jumped the route. Great coaches have their teams prepared.

You can have them prepared and they still make stupid plays, aka Brandon Bostick.

Call me crazy but I don't think McCarthy is a good coach. He's making a living off the best QB in the NFL.

Name me a great football coach that doesn't make a living off of a great quarterback.

He's a terrible coach.

I believe Carroll's explanation.

It's not true because they gave Lynch the ball at the 5 yd line. I'm sure Pete Carroll knew that he would get tackled at the one yard line, setting up the stage for god to let Wilson succeed or fail.

There's also the fact that very few teams are as dependent on their coaching staff as the Packers are on McCarthy. Yea yea yea, every team says they're draft and develop. The Packer have had 3 "big-name" free agents since 2006: Pickett, Woodson and Peppers. Three. Otherwise the onus is on the coaching staff to develop players. There's no Revis, Browner, Avril or Bennett brought in during free agency.

Harbaugh's and Carroll are great coaches IMO. Andy Reid has done well without one. Gruden and Lovie were successful without one. A lot of coaches have had success without one. Hell Belichick won 11 games when Brady got hurt. Tom Coughlin won 2 SBs with Rex Grossman.

McCarthy has a .656 winning percentage. None of those listed above are higher except Bill.

I'm guessing Favre and Rodgers had a lot to do with that.

Sure like Montana and Young had a lot to do with Walsh, and Brady and Belicheat.

Belichick won 11 games when Brady was hurt. The Packers sucked when Rodgers got hurt. The Giants won 2 SBs with Rex Grossman. The Ravens are competitive every year.

My theory is that the opportunity to limit Lynch's TD came after he got stopped at the 1 and they still had the luxury of 3 downs to get it in. It wasn't on top of the gameplan, but when the oppotunity presented itself the coaching staff took it by trying to sneak a passing TD in there on second down. I have no doubt they would've gone back to Lynch had that been an incompletion.

Before McCarthy was hired there was a belief Favre was washed up. Favre had a 20TD/29INT season with a 4-12 record and in McCarthy's 2nd season they were in the NFC Championship.

Aaron came from Cal which had a huge stigma as Tedford system QBs who failed in the NFL.

Oddly, McCarthy deserves no credit.

Actually they had snipers on the roof so that if Lynch had gotten the ball they were going to shoot him.

probably loosely talked about pre game (as in, if we are winning, god I hope Lynch doesn't get the MVP..in a perfect world scenario), but only put into play when the perfect "no risk" scenario presented itself.

He does. He's escaped uncriticized in both his NFC Championship losses.

He couldn't help that his coach was afraid to lose. You saw him March his team down and score when McCarthy stopped coaching scared.

Hmmm, interesting view.

I also saw Rodgers produce the following stat line:

Rodgers 19/34 178 yards 2 INT 55.8 QB Rating

Thats 5.23 yards per attempt. A Jay Cutler stat line.

Rodgers isn't the reason GB lost against Seattle.

#51 on the Seahawks got the only penalty.....for the life of me, I cannot figure this out. He did the same thing as about a dozen other guys on the field between the two teams.
However, #87 on the Pats was clearly way more aggressive, and I do not see another player on the field acting anywhere close to the way he did. He was the only person that hit somebody else in the face(mask)!!
Gronk HAS to get a fine for that crap.

edit:
#51 Seattle was aggressive. He was literally the last guy, out of about 10 guys on the field, that made an aggressive move. That simply cannot be what the refs thought led to that problem. Oy

#51, Bruce Irvin, threw a punch.

You haven't seen that a dozen times. That means automatic ejection by NFL rules.

Gronk's own quote about that fight:

"I got pushed and I was like, 'Screw it, last game of the year, I'm throwing some haymakers.'"
