His wife was in advertising, though.

This is actually interesting. You don't think of Ogilvy screwing up.

He said thins on the show yesterday. His wife has been in advertising before a SQN hobby and still knows people. Or Dan really just has a mental issue with needing to break obvious crap.

It's everything I hate about the Super Bowl- a focus on the commercials and half time show. At this game gave a lot more to talk about with the great ending.

Well, advertising is in my blood, so I guess I care, even if it's coming from Dan.

Let me put on my Beardown hat for a second and wildly claim that this is a shot across the bow at Dave Kaplan. "You think you have more Guys in this town than I do? I have a Guy on every floor of every building! You can never and will never have more Guys!   "

Kaplan: My energy guy says you're going to have your heating cut off, BUDDY!

Bernstein:

Kaplan:

remember in the fun days of the Score when "my guy" meant someone getting free plugs for giving the host free services?

I should start by saying that everything at this time is still preliminary, but from what I'm told, as much as most of the board members want to say rain is dry, there's one wet voice in the room who could change everything.

I hated the ad though

Not sure how I feel about their new jingle, though.

I heard Dan shrieking about this during transition before I turned it off. I thought the ad was effective. A bit of a downer during the Super Bowl, but I think it made the intended point. Why is he so upset about it to the point where he seems to be rooting for the agency to lose the account?

So who would get fired for the "Dead kid" commercial?

Everybody at Nationwide knew about it. They all approved it. So you can't blame one person. I'm sure the President and/or CEO knew what their Super Bowl commercial was going to be.

You know how they fix it?

They have Peyton Manning do a new commercial by singing, in their jingle, "Dead kid commercial was bad idea"

Maybe his Advertising Guy is at Leo Burnett.

This is all well and good, but how does the Nationwide ad get Ogilvy closer to a Clio Award???

It's not even that. This is about billing.

Advertising is a business. An important business handled by very smart important people. When it's done poorly, its Dan's job to mock it because people dont know it's a business.

Another guy with a wife that was a Junior Junior account exec and still watches the commercials as if she is still in a business she hasnt worked in during the last 15 years.

I know anout 5 of those SOURCES as well.

They are the ones that make you shut up during the commercials but have no problem talking during the game so you cant hear shit.

I didn't think the commercial was bad. In fact, it might have saved lives. 112 million people saw it and they might take steps to safe guard their homes to protect their kids. Some might not have done that without the commercial.

Why is that bad?

I think it's likely this source is more real than his sports sources.
