Right, but Cabrera and Abreu and Trout, etc. are in those league averages. I'm not some big Bonifacio fan, but having a switch-hitter who can play all the positions isn't a negative.

Unless his name is Arismendy Alcantara.

I'm sure there are many Cub threads where you can call Alcantara a "super sub" and compare him to Ben Zobrist.

There is a near-zero chance Anderson breaks camp with the Sox. His odds of coming up at all in 2015 are really, really low.

If Alexei is still there, there is zero upside for Anderson to be there

As intriguing as Anderson is (and I think he's better than Rodon, or at least has the potential to be) there is no way I look to move a player like Alexei to 'make room' for Anderson.

The White Sox released OF Dayan Viciedo

They couldn't find anyone who wanted him. Surprising. I wonder if there is something going on that we're not aware of...yet.

no doubt

I think the price tag of his existing contract was too high for team that liked him. Someone will sign him and he will be on an opening day roster.

I don't think he's the type of guy who needed a change of scenery. Things were great for him here. He was given time to develop. He had several fellow countrymen on the roster. Fans never got on him. This was as good of a nurturing situation as he could get. I think this is just who he is. It's not horrible but its not particularly good either.

They save 80% of his salary awarded in arbitration. It's a very good gamble you could find a AAAA guy that replaces his production. You can't hide him at DH either with LaRoche and Abreu on the roster. I have a feeling Robin said "Fuck that shit" after having to carry Konerko and Dunn on the roster last year.

It would piss you off as a Sox fan... I'm certain... if you kept Dianne on the roster, and couldn't use his salary to trade for a veteran at the deadline if they are in contention, no?

JORR, do you feel that this entire Viciedo debacle is evidence of a professional, smooth-running organization?

Here is a quick timeline:

Dec 2 Angels non tender Gordon Beckham
Jan 12 Khahn avoids arbitration with Tank and signs him to a 1 year deal worth $4.4 mil
16 days later
Jan 28 Khahn signs Gordon Beckham and DFAs Viciedo
Feb 4 White Sox release Dayan and eat $733,000 of his 23 day old deal

Looks like old Rick just blew three quarters of a million of Uncle Jerry's money for what? Beckham was available when he needlessly signed Tank. If Khahn had waited for arb hearing he did not need to sign Tank until they would have started. By the way arb hearings did not start until Feb 1 and run through Feb 12.

Looks like the Khahning of Sox fans continues.

They had neither Cabrera nor Bonifacio when the deadline to tender Viciedo hit. Say you will about Viciedo, but without him the best the Sox had in LF would have been JB Shuck.

I also think Viciedo will have at least one All Star season in his career.

I don't know enough about the situation. I will say that $700,000 within the context of the operations of an MLB team is pocket change. Maybe they thought they had a deal and it fell through. There are way too many unknowns to even be able to speculate. I am surprised that they couldn't get a couple 19 year old pitchers for him though.

The desperation in this post is amazing. It truly is.

I'm convinced. Rick Hahn is having a bad offseason. How will they ever recover from this?

 Are you kidding?

If Theo signed a player and then cut him 3 weeks later we'd be on page 50 of the thread.

He avoided arbitration with him which seemed to be the best move at the time.

For all he knew at that point, Beckham was going someplace else. If some team signs Beckham and he had not done this THE INQUISITOR is saying how Hahn messed up also.

So are you also saying this is a big deal?

$733K equals a $2Mish salary around trade deadline.

If Jerry/Kenny/Hahn are willing to eat this money then I don't want to hear 670 The Pravda scold fans for not showing up.

Look at the dead weight that has been shed from last year's opening day roster.

Paul Konerko
Adam Dunn
Alejandro De Aza
Dayan Viciedo
Erik Johnson
Felipe Paulino
Ronald Belisario
Donnie Veal
Scott Downs

If there was ever a case of addition by subtraction, this is it.
