That thought may be worse than the CHEMTRAILS people.

Did you attend some sort of weird conspiracy camp in the past few weeks?

Do you not believe in any unintended consequences? Do you not believe ideas that seem great sometimes go horribly wrong?

Take RICO as an example. It was originally intended as a tool to take down mobsters conspiring to commit criminal acts. Now it is being used to stop people from exercising their right to assemble. But the government is innocuous and benevolent, right? Give me that fucking chip!

Once you posted your thoughts on tequila Hatchet, I began seeing your posts in a whole new light.

That isn't a reason to never do anything though especially when the science is sound and peer reviewed.

It's like going to the gym. I could die of a heart attack there. That doesn't mean I should never go to the gym.

As I said, as long as the science is sound and peer reviewed and transparent then it's going to be really hard for the government to use it to be evil.

I'm not telling you not to vaccinate your children. I think you should. Where we disagree is that you want the government involved in it.

The government is involved in setting rules and regulations for healthcare. Why should it be different here?

The government isn't involved in actually ordering what goes into your body. Would you support mandatory tattoos with pertinent medical information?

RPB,

So you think that the government is going to tell Doctors to start injecting us all with some mind control drug or something? Do you think this could be pulled off without someone speaking up? Boy...it feels strange for me to be defending the government, but come on Man.

No, it doesn't have to be that. Could be sterilizing people for example

I'm reconsidering my position though. I hate to give the government that kind of access but its probably necessary now which fucking sucks

I think it's adorable that people here think the American Government is actually, well, a government as opposed to an extension of the corporate oligarchy.

The government would never do anything against the wishes of its people. I know you're completely on board with Obamacare.

If Hitler had had a vaccination program he could have saved a shitload on fuel costs.

What the fuck are you wowing about? It's unbelievable how people get so comfortable and believe nothing could ever happen to them. That shit isn't some ancient history like Attila the Hun or Genghis Khan, it was in 1945. Many of our parents were alive. Germany was a "modern" society. Nobody saw that coming until it was happening. And we don't even have to go back that far. There are atrocities being committed by governments all over the world right now as I type this. But it couldn't happen here!

While I think your massive conspiracy theory happening in 2015 in the USA is insane I got your point.
My wow was directed at Hitler making people buy a Prius or some other horrible way to save gas.

The problem is that once you go down this road of concern you have to extend it much further then vaccines being used to deliver some sort of genocide. Eventually, you end up living in a one room cabin in South Dakota with a shelter for the coming war.

Otherwise, you have to trust that the government is not going to use vaccines to engage in a mass genocide.

Trust the government. It is not like there is any secret shit going on like surveillance or arming police like they are leaving for Iraq or anything.

I am just skeptical. BR is right in that we have to have some level of faith in the government otherwise society breaks down. I just look at each issue. I first decide if it is something that the Federal Government should take an active role in. I prefer issues to be handled as locally as possible. In many cases, things are just common sense, and we don't need the government to force people to do anything. Seat belts are a prime example. Do we really need a law for seat belts? Honestly, how dumb do you have to be to not wear one? Simplest safety device ever.

Really what amazes me is that there are enough dumb people in this country that this is even a debate. Just about everyone here agrees that you should get your kids vaccinated. It is merely an argument over whether the government should mandate it.

I get that Libertarians look looney because of their inability to be practical about the role of government. I just don't have the level of faith in government that others do. I want its role to be as limited as possible.

There is a massive difference between what you wrote and the expectation that the government of the United States will not use vaccines to commit genocide against us.

It wouldn't have to be a genocide, Rick. And what Jenny is calling a "massive conspiracy" I'd really just call politics.

Let me give you a hypothetical that really isn't outlandish. 2024, Ted Cruz has just been elected president. There is a Republican Congress that is loaded with Tea Partiers. Hillary Clinton had introduced mandatory vaccines in back in 2017 just prior to Great Depression II. Now Congress passes a law that on her 18th birthday when the MMR booster is due, any woman on welfare has to take MMR-B which includes sterilization. Outlandish? I know for a fact there are goofs on this board who would cheer such a thing.

I've never met a Libertarian. Every person I've ever known claiming such status has accumulated wealth via a societal structure that is anything but libertarian.

I'd say that is outlandish.

However, the problem there still isn't vaccines. It is the idea of forced sterilization being passed by Congress. It's like worrying that a new highway being built could have an internment camp built on it. The highway isn't the issue. The internment camp is.

So how many mandatory vaccines do we need to take? Do I "need" the HPV vaccine?

Your post that I quoted pretty much said we have no choice but to trust the government or we'll be a weirdo hiding in a log cabin

How is that misrepresenting anything?

And I said nothing about genocide. You're the one exaggerating or putting JORR's thoughts on me

You are conveniently leaving out that the log cabin reference was in regards to the belief that the government will use vaccines as a way to commit genocide.

Back up

I never said anything about the government committing genocide. But you're now ascribing that statement to me, aren't you? Or did I misunderstand?

As JORR said, it doesnt have to be genocide. Could be anything. The problem is the level of access and trust given to the government. You have to think "the government will always have my best interests in mind" to be ok with that. I'm really not ok with that. (but as I posted might be the lesser of two evils here)
