Rural northern Illinois (Rockfordland?) =/= downstate Illinois, though. I once walked into a Jimmy John's in B-N and saw a handwritten sign on the door blaming a sales tax increase on people from Chicago. I don't think I'd see that in Loves Park.

Maybe in Machesney Park.

when you get to areas with streets identified with numbers rather than names, you're not in Kansas anymore

There are hilljacks in Chicago. South of 95th and west of Cicero.

You might want to consult your MJ geography book.

Beckman didn't really wreck them. Beckman is kind of a boob but he seemed like less of a boob in this interview.

Speaking of boobs...look who's son signed with illinois...NO PRESSURE KID!!

Oh God I hated that place. I admit to liking C.O.'s though.

Jeff Sr. was more of a CO's guy himself (as was I). It's just not there anymore.

He used to double park that Corvette outside on Friday afternoons.

I was trying to recall a place that had great french fries, which I could never afford. I think it was a bar called Murphy's. I wish I wasn't poor in college. At that point in my life I wasn't into burritos, but I know La Bamba's was big.

Honestly, since I left I have not been back to that city. I found it to be an incredible dump.

Murphy's had and still has great burgers and fries.

DeLuxe had a tremendous fried fish sandwich on Fridays but it's now a Legend's bar.

Greek Table had a great gyros but I think it's gone.

LaBamba was a tremendous place for burritos. It had great food also. There were many a $5.28 charge on the credit card at the end of the night when I'd spent every dollar on beer and the only ATM was 6 blocks off campus (not that I had an ATM card - that kind of new-fangled technology was for rich Chicago kids). There is no more LaBamba on campus anymore - replaced by the Chipotles and Noodles & Cos of the world.

That was a dump. Green St is unrecognizable now. It has basically been entirely rebuilt with the exception of Murphy's.

If I ever pass through there, I'll have to stop at Murphy's. I am glad my memory was correct on their food. I was too poor to afford any of it.
