I'd rather not.

I think he is Edgar Renteria on the high end

RPB gave me a ton of shit when I said Brett Jackson's ceiling could be Mike Trout. Isn't "Edger Renteria on the high end" pretty fucking similar?

No. Mike Trout may end up being one of the best players ever.

No. Mike Trout may end up being one of the best players ever.

And his career may end next season due to catastrophic injury. Or he may have a Derrick Rose career where he had an amazing start to his career, and fizzled from there due to underperformance or a series of injuries.

Meanwhile, Edgar Renteria's career is over and he was good. There is no maybe with Edgar Renteria. 5 time All Star, MVP votes, etc

Bacon definitely did not live up to the hype. I thought he would be a lot better than he was, a cornerstone in the Sox infield/lineup for many years. It didn't happen.

But after the numbers he put up his rookie year, while learning to play a new position at the MLB level, how could Sox fans not have been high on him?

Who needs Gio Gonzalez when you have stud grinder in Nick Swisher. Prospects...more like suspects!

They don't actually say "Hall of Fame" but the numbers they suggest for him in his rookie season- his fucking rookie season!- are better than Longoria's best year.

They = Steve

Keyzer definitely is the biggest baseball fan on the board. Definitely a top-3 in knowledge. I just think he odd biases here and there.

Not even close

And most people were comparing Beckham to a Renteria type player at that time. Wasnt even my thought, just one I agree with.

You comapred your guy who never even became and MLB starter to a guy who has been top 2 in MVP voting every year in his career

I compared a guy who was a good young infielder with early success to a good, not great shortstop.

We were both wrong. My shot hit the rim. Yours went over the backboard

Starting a thread with Cubs in the title is like putting a giant RPB lure on a hook.

Didn't he bring back Jim Thome in a trade the first time?

Thome & $22M for Rowand, Gonzalez and Daniel Haigwood (?).
That was a good trade.

Im sorry that I feel compelled to defend the overall fanbase beacuse there is a faction of fans who say insane shit like Were building the next 90's Braves. I wish those people didnt exist but there are some.

It's a sports message board. We go back and forth on the White Sox and Cubs. I post a lot. Deal with it.

Your consistent bewilderment at this very normal situation is now bordering on straight up ignorance.

I don't think posting a lot of articles, blogs, and twitter updates should be the criteria we use.

I think you need to recall when I made that comment. Mike Trout had less than 300 career PA's.

Especially when you consider Rowand would soon be a $60 million player. I'm still floored by that contract almost a decade later.

Probably a greater chance of doing so than Javier Baez.

And Oscar Taveras

Brett Jackson had never had an at-bat.
