amazon might take over the stores. not to keep radioshack, but to brand them as amazon box stores. http://www.wired.com/2015/02/amazon-radioshack/

real question will be if amazon will keep the radioshack employees onboard or if they will hire smart people

just kidding. even if radio shack people don't know much about technology, i have always found them to be good people.

yeah you know i reckon radio shack could get slagged off as being a shitty place to buy modern consumer electronics (like who goes there to buy a computer or a phone or a tablet or something?) but they always had those little adapters and cables and whatnot. and yeah over the years their prices for those things kind of went up up and away cuz they were trying to support a whole chain of stores through selling little gadgets and doohickeys and pieces as opposed to whole products, but still... they always had a warm place in the cackles of my heart for being the home of TANDY COMPUTERS!

fittingly enough, i think over the next ~5-15 years we're going to start to see a return of dummy terminals as the powers that be shift all of our computer stuff serverside with ubiquitous internet bandwith/presence there to make remote data storage for local devices entirely possible. and it woulda been !!! if TANDY COMPUTERS were still around to usher in the new age of old dummy terminals, but alas, we'll have to get them from that company with the spiffy product design who thought that "original sin" was a cheeky idea for a corporate logo.... c'est la vie!

They won't be asking for your phone number when you buy batteries anymore.

OHHHH YEAH DUDE, holy shit i forgot about that whole aspect of their business/model. good god man, it's one thing to be like "ok we've got a 'preferred customer' card so they can dangle menial sales in your face in exchange for marketing information and, of course, having your purchases permanently recorded in a database so they can study you and figure you out and use their high tech marketing algorithms along with good ol fashioned marketing/business degree corporate knowhow to figure out how to best maximize their profits by luring you in with specifically-catered-to-you deals/incentives/etc....

....yeah that's one thing that's by and large accepted wherever you go nowadays. but being so desperate to cling on to customers that you're asking for their phone # and shit when they just show up to buy batteries or one of those little adapters/cables/gizmos for your pre-existing electronics? yeah good grief man we know you guys are hard up for sales and all that but at least act like you've been in the endzone before FFS.

On my list of stores that I dislike and will never ever shop at, the Shack is probably #1.

Even worse was a place I worked at for a month a zillion years ago the Radio Shack's parent company tried before Best Buy et al.... Video Concepts. What a disaster. Radio Shack trying to sell you 60" rear projection TV's and Panasonic VHS camcorders.

Yeah, I guess it's just a running joke, now.

It would be a good low term gamble right now. Its trading at 10 cents. The high is 12 and the low is 8.
Ill even give DB buying the high @ 12

Now let's see how much money we make

Beebo worked on Tandy Computers. His first Trash-80 was #23! Hand-built. His Dad designed the interconnect cable between the Model I and its expansion interface (the "donkey dick".)

(switching pronouns) I'm pissed at what's happened, but the migration of stores into malls was the beginning of the loss of direction. I can expound on miscues, but they've had nothing unique to sell for *decades*

their hysterectomy of their core business is what killed them. you cant rip out all the sex parts of a woman and replace them with cell phones and expect her to still give birth.

they should have just stuck with electronic components. we do not have a national electronic hobby store now. maybe people will claim its just not that popular of a past time, but neither is model trains yet we still have hobbytown usa.

all they needed to do was adopt the massive hacker community. sell the shit they want to buy. make the audrino section the largest section of the store. hire guys who know how to make things with them. people will be going to radio shack to get pre-configured audrino kits to run their christmas lights, but while they are they get to witness a guy tinkering with an audrino to do some amazing things. the stores would be packed with customers every day just to see smart guys do cool techy things. radio shack would have been reborn from an analog hobby store to a digital one.

but no. they had to shit all over themselves by selling cell phones. what fucking morons.

Doesn't Fry's sell all the little components and stuff for hackers and tinkerers? Maybe they'll expand more.

most of the shack stores around me are in their own buildings built just for radio shack.

of course all the ones in the malls must be rented...

Now where are you going to buy remote control toys that work for 15 minutes!

Actually, we *did* have a national electronic parts outlet. it was called Allied Electronics. But that was the 70s.

I believe there was a Silo in Southpoint Mall at Rand and Palatine, next door to Cub Foods and a whole bunch of other shit that's not there anymore.
