I believe Mike was trying to use B and B's "sports specific retard" theory. I don't appreciate that they use that term, but in most cases I agree with how they regard the thinking of some people on certain issues.
The great thing about this case is that Mike has shown in several instances that he's lacking in sports knowledge.
His lack of respect for Urlacher is a well-known fact, but I think someone can make a valid case for Urlacher being as good or better than Butkus. Urlacher is quicker than Butkus, and, at times, he can be just as brutal with his tackles.
Butkus shed blocks much better, but I don't believe he was facing as many 300-plus-pound offensive linemen or 265-290 pound fullbacks. His weight was a much closer to those at these positions. I would argue that Butkus didn't move as well laterally. I believe Dick would have had a hard time handling mobile QBs like McNabb (earlier version) and Vick.
Once again, Mike shows his lack of thinking. Poor argument, poor choice of words.

As the Father of a handicapped child, I dont have a huge issue with the word, but as someone stated before, its Mikes logic in using the word. I heard it and all I can say is that I agree with NSJ and his statement that it is a good theing that North never had kids and that also goes for Fred.

I actually don't think the word is offensive either. It was the English word that was decided a long time ago to describe mentally challenged people. The medical world gave us that word. It's just a word.

As time goes by people felt the need to change it because they thought it is offensive. Why? I don't know. If they started with the description "mentally challenged" that would have been changed too. I guess people just have a shelf life for words when describing conditions.

Handicap and fat can't be used now either because they are offensive. It's "physically unable" and "thin challenged" now a days.
