I went into this hoping it'd at least be fun bad. I even started a campaign on FB to give it the MST treatment. But it's not worthy. It's just absolutely dreadful. It's so painfully boring when it isn't trying to be softcore porn...which is the only time the movie is the least bit interesting.

The movie itself is not strong, the plot is extremely thin, it's just a porno movie essentially. The leads are good looking, Dakota's got a fine body, and some of the "steamy" sex scenes will arouse you and your gf and/or wife (if you're pittmike, maybe both at the same time)...but what made me angry wasn't how bad the movie was.

this is like...the ultimate double standard. so a woman writes about essentially about a rich rapist, and that's not only OK, she's the new flippin' stephanie meyers out of it. she has an empire out of it. a guy writes this movie/book, and it's either just a dimestore paperback trash romance novel or the guy does time for writing such obscenities and is seen as a voyeur rapist himself.

the message sent to women is basically that it doesn't matter how awful a guy is, and how controlling he wants to be...as long as he's rich as fuck and has his own helicopter and private jet, he can do what he wants. ana thinks he "goes too far" at one point, only after she already agreed he could do whatever he wanted to her...and suddenly pulls a lena dunham and tries to leave him.

but we know she won't. if christian grey were making $35,000 a year, not on IMU's fast track, girls would call this guy "creepy" and misogynistic. and that's where the whole womyn thing is fucking bullshit. because all those women who ring their hands over unfairness and whatnot all own this book, and all get wet from a guy who basically does everything they say they hate about men--but he has enough money and status to get away with doing it. what a shitload of fuck.

It's really a showcase of what new age feminism is.

Awful. Just awful.

The books were pretty bad, but they were somewhat entertaining. While I don't necessarily disagree with your thoughts, I think they might be little simplistic. Some women are shallow and after money. Some just want a hot guy that they can't get enough of. Some want the challenge of taming the wild stallion or fixing a hurt one. Some like guys who are in some way though of as powerful. You have to have girl friends that have loved a broke asshole. Women like to feel special and loved. Sex is a little different from our perspective. A lot of times you guys are happy to be there. I think women like when it's a little more fun but most have no idea what fun is for them.

The story wouldn't have worked if he were an average Joe but I don't think that's what women gravitated to. I agree this series wouldn't have been successful if written by a man.

no i understand that aspect...but in this case, the writer made it simplistic by failing to create a real 3 dimensional character. besides the superficiality of him being rich and good looking, there is not one redeeming quality about him as a character. yes, women like to have a challenge with guys and try to unlock those mysteries with the tall dark stranger. this guy has nothing underneath except a cliched story about being abused and he's so cold and calculating in his personality that he'd be son of sam if not for all his wealth to buy whatever he wanted. he's just a rich sociopath.

i get these stories could be little guilty pleasures for women but this has become far more reaching than the fabio type stuff. this is just vile...especially now that it's a mainstream film, and potentially film series.

My wife and I cozied up on the couch and rented "All of Me",a Nicholas Sparks movie.

For what it was,it wasn't bad. Always entertaining when you add white trash hillbillies into a story.

I thought it was bad, but not the worst thing I've ever sat through. Fiance thought it was pretty good.

Both of us agreed the female lead is the most annoying character ever created.

I'll watch it on HBO for 5-10 minutes after everyone else is asleep if the people on Real Sex are particularly unattractive that evening. No cultural significance.

Not 100% sure I'm with you on this one. I would guess that the cultural-studies crowd thinks this book is shit just as much as anyone else. I was under the impression that the main demo for this franchise was undersexed housewives, not well-off white girls who read Jezebel (redundant?). I mean, they already have handsome boyfriends who are into kinky shit but only in the most respectful way: just ask them, they'll tell you.

Of course. This goes without saying. If you're rich you can be an ass hole and a creep. Women accept it.

Simplistic, but I have to say...still accurate...and that is what is sad. This should be what separates girls from women. Enough times around with assholes / losers should mature them to realize what's healthy and what's stupid. it works for many, but some never learn.

My GF is reading the book now. All she has said is it's awful, but entertaining. Everything about it seems 16 yr old high school stupid to me.

With that, I'll get back to constructing my "play room".

Yeah I'm sure all the movies they have acted in have been top notch. Theatrical. Broadway caliber.

I saw it Thursday. It was not good. I get why WZ was all over it. I don't think the guy came off as crazy in the book and the female was stronger in the book. The movie wasn't good.
