McCartney is still a viable performer (and FS is correct in praising his band), but he just needs to change the key on some of his songs. There is no shame in doing that. Most, if not all of the 'big' bands who still play (ACDC, Rush, Stones, Robert Plant/Zeppelin in '07) drop some of their songs down a key or two in order to accommodate the singer's voice in their old age.

Quite giving Kanye airtime. If you let him perform, thats fine. There was no need to keep referencing him throughout the show, and even let him jokingly take the mic during the red carpet pre-show thing. He can be a genius in the genre and still be an asshole.

I laughed most at Sean Connery (Le Tits Now, and Whore Ads), along with the political montage.

Charlie Murphy's first stand up special, I Will Not Apologize. I don't think Charlie Murphy had been a stand up previously. He has all these decent jokes but
wooden delivery and no timing. I think Eddie might have given Charlie most of that material.

Saw Charlie Murphy live a few years later and his delivery was better; but the content shifted from Eddie style punchline heavy bits to more conversational stories, a la Louis CK and Eddie Izzard et al.

i think it's a taste thing but i have always laughed at "the californians" and i like armisen.

i agree with GD on eddie murphy. do something funny. and cyrus wasn't bad. that's never been one of my favorite songs from simon (i'm not a big fan of name rhyming) but she put her own touch to it and it was fine.

i really don't understand how people thought the "breaks" song was *funny*. it had no comic presence whatsoever. just show a montage of the actors breaking...

Did they show any clips or have anything for the cast members that, uh, weren't able to be there? Farley, Hartman, Belushi, etc?

They showed a clip of every cast member to be on SNL. They had one montage doing a lot of them. Maybe only 2 seconds each. But I think they showed everybody.

The long monologues were the worst part. They should have done more live skits. That's what I thought they were gonna do.

she's asking if they did a memoriam montage for the departed, and yes they did. it should have been a longer segment. it included crew members as well.

On a tangential note, full episodes of Dennis Miller Live are pretty hard to find. I think I've found maybe one or two and they both had Christopher Hitchens as the guest. Some of his stuff hasn't aged well, but on the other hand, he's proven to be highly influential.

FWIW, I thought they did as well as could be expected, and really enjoyed it as a whole. The only issues I had with the special in general were the Eddie Murphy tribute (singled him out over and above all the others) and too much fucking Kanye.

Gar and Kat is one of the worst recurring skits of all time, right behind Gilly.

Overall I enjoyed the show. There were several things I didn't really like, but it was 3 hours so that's bound to happen. The part with Seinfeld was the best part of the show, IMO.

John Goodman looked like he had been embalmed.

I've never really heard one of her songs in its entirety so I can't comment on her musicianship, but Taylor Swift has a face like a rat

She can play a few guitar chords and sing pop songs relatively well. Sadly, that is better than some of the best "artists" out there right now.
