Spend a whole day celebrating a donut and spend the evening at what can only be the 2nd best show in town, at best.

Mediocrity reigns the middle aged.

Mellencamp is the best show in town every night he plays in any town he plays. You hipsters like to tug on capes but the guy has been making relevant music pretty much my entire life.

Ran into him at the old commuter terminal in O'hare years ago.

I was dating a girl that was a huge fan of his. We chatted for a couple of minutes and i asked him for an autograph.

He said, "Sure, what do you want to write." I thought about it and said, " Dear Joanne, best wishes or some bullshit like that."

He writes out the autograph, hands it over, heads for a plane to Bloomington, IN.

The autograph says.

Dear Joanne,

Some bullshit or something like that

John Cougar Mellencamp

I was late to the party on him. It was the release of Lonesome Jubilee in 1987 that made me a fan. I'll always fondly remember driving from NIU down to U of I in the fall of '87. That album was the soundtrack for the trip, and any time I hear a tune from it, I think back to that trip. Always puts a smile on my face. Love the power music possesses.

I sold this album on ebay not long ago. I think I got two bucks for it:

It has a great version of "Do You Believe In Magic" on it.

He's cooler than Springsteen.

Bruce married an actress and she made him move to LA. Cougar married a model and he made her move to Seymour, Indiana. That's a strong fuckin' pimp hand.

Has any other artist released solo albums under four different names?

Diddy, though I'm using the term "artist" loosely.

Dirt McGirt
Osirus

Method Man
Johnny Blaze
Trappa John MD
Ticalion Stallion

Prince Rakeem
Rza
Rzarectuh
Bobby Digital

Rza actually relased an album under each name. (although the Bobby Digital one is Rza as Bobby Digital)

It ended up being just an average concert. He was sick so his voice wasn't great and I think they band compensated by playing in lower keys. He also adjusted a few songs in a way I thought detracted from their strength. He didn't have the energy last night so songs that should be sung with passion seemed mechanical.

I still had a good time. I hit up Heaven on Seven for dinner. I don't care about the problems of his other places, Bannos still and always has produced a superior product out the original. The food has always tasted better at the Garland Building location. I then went to the rooftop bar at the Witt for drinks with friends. It's a nice view but the beautiful people aren't there in the winter. We then walked the half block to the show. Good night and good times

His voice is bad because he is 60, and smokes a ton of cigarettes.

Oddly enough his son was here last week doing the night club tour with his band.

I saw The Outfield open for Mike & The Mechanics at Poplar Creek, according to setlist.fm, it was August 13, 1989.
I was 15, and it was the first time I ever smelled pot smoke.
I think I won tickets from WXLC or some shit.
Great show.
