It is now.

I think it's about as big as hockey, unless he's alluding to the suicide. He probably wouldn't take that tone with the moral standing of a local weatherlady.
A lot of the rumors are bigger than hockey. Clubhouse fight. Sleeping with teammates wives. Sharp threatening to sue.

eh, it was the way he said it I guess. But I'll happily be ignorant and keep not listening to much of the show.

A lot of you seem to think that Bernstein is in trouble for his likely true reporting on the matters with the Hawks. So, what do you think happens to him? Is he fired? Is he suspended? Is he sued?

I say pretty much nothing happens and by Monday this is all just a big joke on the show if it isn't already. At worst, he gets less free stuff from the Hawks while Sharp is there but I think he'll live. The Hawks can't really do much to Bernstein because he is still the driving force behind the biggest radio show around right now. He also likely got the "inside information" from a source within Hawks management because that seems to be the common theme.

Just remember, yesterday, even with all of this stuff, Dan basically said "Sue me and be embarrassed".

Anyways, what is your prediction? Anyone willing to say that anything actually happens to Dan besides temporary loss of some free tickets?

Why do you think it's likely true? Bernstein continually makes shit up.

He completely fabricates stuff like this?

Making up a source is one thing, this would be a bit more than that

I may be wrong, but these rumors existed long before Dan brought them up on air right? I figured he took existing rumors and claimed "his guys" told him they are true.

He seems to have been as vague about everything as possible. Just seems fake.

Surprised to see Bucky Chris going the "defend a hockey player" route.

. It's not like I'm dismissing it happened outright, but I just feel pretty confident that Bernstein isn't getting any inside info on it. That's based on how much shit he makes up. If it's true, then the other rumors were probably true and Bernstein just piggy backed them.

I listen to the show a lot and it is completely clear that Dan has an inside guy with the Cubs, and now the Bears and the Bulls.

I have no doubt he has an inside guy with the Hawks too. It all happened because of him basically being a PR firm for the Cubs.

I guess vigirously defending any and all management has its perks. Yesterday, a caller tried to say "How many coaches can we fire before we look at Paxson and Forman?" which is completely fair and his only response was "Well, I know that upper management is very happy with them".

The Bulls and highly acrimonious coaching departures really go hand in hand, don't they? Doug, Phil, Skiles, Vinny, now Thibodeau. Most NBA teams just fire coaches for sucking. We have high-profile character assassinations and punches to the face.

No coach since Collins has been able to get in "Jerry's family"

Jerry has repeatedly said that Ozzie is like a son to him.

I was referring to Bulls only. Ozzie and Robin are definitely in.

Phil never got in.

They gifted them jobs, how is that an assassination?!?!?

(It's still tough to imagine that wasn't self-parody by Bernstein. How can he not see possibility that you could hire someone yet also undermine them later. C'mon, man. Also, while Thibodeau was indeed not hired for a long while, he was interviewing heavily in 2008 when they hired VDN, and then before taking the Bulls job turned down one in New Orleans.)

Well, Tim Floyd was never going to make it. Bill Cartwright was reportedly very close with Krause, but I never heard anything about him cultivating a special relationship with Jerry. Meanwhile, Paxson has only chosen a-holes as his head coaches--Skiles and Thibs. And of course Phil sullied himself by organizing opposition to Krause, so he was never going to be part of the family.

Yeah, and I'm not sure when that happened. At the time Jerry hated Collins for going after Krause's job.

I was too young at the time, but I remember when there were rumors of Collins coming back Jerry was recalling how hard it was to get rid of Doug and how much he loved him etc

I think Jerry is rewriting history. Collins was a Krause guy who Jerry didnt want. Krause insisted and Jerry acquiesced. Then Collins stabbed Krause in the back. He had a player mutiny. And he refused to play the guys Krause wanted. History repeats itself.

Didn't Jerry pay for Cartwright's throat surgery?

I agree with this view. It seems like Collins is unbearably intense and ruthless when he is coaching, but is generous and compassionate when he isn't coaching. So I suspect he and Jerry reconciled during Collins visits to the United Center as a TV analyst.

I agree with the comments regarding Bernstein's sources as well as his penchant to always support management (with exception being the firing of Ron Adams). In answer to the question regarding the firing of so many coaches, the response should be they all deserved it - some sooner than others. Although that brings into question GarPax's hiring acumen.

Don't know about the Cubs or Bulls, but Dan has no inside guy with the Bears. He has never put forth a thought about the Bears that wasn't done so by someone else before him.

And being a house boy for local franchises puts him on a level with Rongey.

Just ask Chet.

The Bulls did, as I recall, probably due to Krause, who also found the surgeon who repaired Cartwright's larynx.

No matter how much people want to rewrite history, when Bernstein said that Trestman was fired he was doing it at a time when many people were saying the Bears wouldn't do it because they don't fire coaches after two years and they aren't going to pay the money for it.

No. Cartwright was Krause's guy, just like Floyd.

Paxson is Jerry's guy.

No. Cartwright was Krause's guy, just like Floyd.

Paxson is Jerry's guy.

It would be easier if they werent both named Jerrry

I guess that makes sense. Kraus made the Oakley trade. But Reinsdorf must have been ok with him
