Officially announced...for PS4 and Xbox One

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/03/05/rock-band-4-announced-for-ps4-and-xbox-one

DLC from previous games will carry over (I can't stress how excited this part makes me), provided you stay with the same console famiiy (360 to One, PS3 to PS4), and they are trying to make the previous hardware work, though there are challenges with that (I don't care about this as much, as my drums quit working a while back anyways, so I need new hardware.)

The DLC carry over is great for someone like me with 1000+ songs, but there's a pretty solid asterisk after it
Quote:
* The number of songs available as DLC at launch is to be determined and may be subject to change. Previously purchased DLC will be available for re-download and use in Rock Band 4 only after the DLC is released on next-generation consoles.
I have to dig out some old account passwords because we did DLC shares back in the day.

No keyboards and no pro guitars though.

Yeah, that's a point of caution, but at least they are trying to do right by the people that have supported them in the past...so I have to give them props for that...

...I washed out of Rock Band some point between 2 and Beatles, so I never have any of the keyboards or pro guitars.

I didn't expect anything to transfer over anyway, so whatever does is already a bonus. Sucks for people who went from the 360 to a PS4. I guess also to the 5 people who went from PS3 to a XBone, but depending on how much DLC you bought it might just be cheaper to buy an XBone rather than rebuying DLC.

Microsoft should throw Harmonix a hell of a party for getting people like me to buy 360s for Dance Central as well all the people that will now be buying XBones to play their old Rock Band songs.

Huh? Would you not agree Harmonix is a great developer for selling their consoles? Dance Central 360 exclusive. Fantasia: Music Evolved XBox exclusive. Rock Band 2 came out on Xbox a month before PS3. Rock Band Network is useless on PSN. They do right by them.

I guess I didn't know what your angle there was...seemed like it could have been mild trolling, but I digress.

Yeah, Harmonix has been great for Microsoft, as have been many first party and third party partners. I'd say there are at least a few studios Microsoft would be throwing parties before Harmonix, but no doubt they've done well for each other over the past 7 or 8 years.
