I like what was said but I didn't think it fit that song. Poetry in a rap song like that sounds terrible. It threw the entire rhythm of the song off. It would have been better without that.

wow, how did it take three pages to get this one? when i read the premise of this thread that song was the first one that came to mind... good ol c-brown did his thing better than all the tribe homos yet when you listen to that song you're just waiting for that last verse to come in and kick everything else's ass.

everyone there wanted to outshine each other. aceyalone's first verse is excellent, i mean, it's why he's kind of the best at what he does. the other guys are all pretty good, i think lyrics born is all fine and good... but then at the end, shit, gift of gab (blackalicious) just comes out and annihilates it. it's a style that he had used on a little odd 12" called "just what can happen" (which only ended up on his supreme lyricism vol 1 mixtape) and like, shit.... i mean shit. i can understand the merits of preferring rap that is more straightforward and outwardly comprehendable and thus gives you the ability to rap along with and all that, but really, i mean.... that's some shit. i wish i could do that.
