Perhaps this is where the idea of having many well regarded prospects comes in handy? If one doesn't work out there are other that could?

I don't know. I'll ask pittmike.

Yeah, just callin it like I see it.

Maddon and Mallee visiting Baez in Puerto Rico to whisper sweet nothings doesn't seem like it's working. He is only 22 though. Plenty of time left.

Yep. Could absolutely still be Uggla (2 time All star, nothing to balk at)

Yeah, but no one said they will all bust. You have to read into what he was saying more. He was using actual names of prospects and acting like you were a fool if you thought they would bust. Well, one looks to be on that track. Another looks like a utility player at best. It is still too early on Soler. It's very possible the only "hit" on those four is Bryant.

However, THE INQUISITOR went insane on others.

The post is a bunch of double talk. It acknowledges that only 19% of all prospects ever play a major league game (and that includes the likes of Gordon Beckham and Kevin Orie) and makes the tacit assumption that the Cubs will outpace that number and at least some of their prospects will be awesome.[/quote]
I didnt get that.

19% refers to all prospects ever. Then Inquisitor starts talking about top prospects, which has different numbers.

To me, it seemed like he was saying having a bunch of highly rated prospects means a better chance of hitting on a couple of them.

Yeah, but no one said they will all bust.

Jorr's response was "Enjoy this latest round of busts"

I wouldnt be making any final determinations on Baez yet. Soler looks to have all the talent, its probably a question of health with him.

Its been years already, no reason to rush.

I'll just point out that doesn't mean that they will all be busts.

Kinda seems like it leans that way, but you're right it's not explicit.

Im very tired of all this, to be honest.

I just cant wait to start seeing it on the field. We've argued this out, there is nothing left for any of us to say. We're all just repeating stuff we've said.

In that post, it seemed to be top 20 prospects of the Southern league

I'm not being obtuse. I doubt you can give me an actual definition of "top prospects". Is Baez a top prospect?

It's a no lose situation for the Cub when it comes to Baez. If he busts out, "Hey, we gave him a shot but ultimately he was a Hendry guy. We never would've taken him." If he pans out, then it becomes "Under our tutelage, Javier has blossomed into a bona-fide piece on a contending team."

You are being obtuse. You knew what I meant and certainly knew it wasnt "guys drafted by Theo"

And you know Baez is/was a top prospect.

Like I said, we've done this, Im not interested.

I don't think he is a top prospect though. He strikes out half the fucking time. Why is that a top prospect? Because some goof says so?

I dont know if you get some joy out of me walking you thru this (that you already know) and then you pointing out all the holes that you think are in the process but like I've said, we've done this

Its not unique to the Cubs or even baseball

Eddy Curry was a top prospect. So was Tony Mandarich. But also LeBron James and Peyton Manning.

You know what prospects are, dude.

They weren't top prospects. People mistakenly thought they were.

No, I don't think so. Many want them to win the World Series only in a specific way- the "right way" with homegrown top prospects.

True.

They also need to be good for a decade or it won't really be worth celebrating.

So a top prospect is a prospect someone thinks will be good?

A person or thing that analysts believe has a good chance to be successful

JORR is actually getting at something here that makes the Cubs seriously hateable (and not just whatever weird adult-manifestation-of-autism hate I have for them). There's a little bit of a notion that they've already got it in the bag, playoffs this year are a given and from there its just a matter of time. It's not about winning it in whatever organic way it will happen, its about Wrigley "being ready" and winning it at home and making sure NOBODY FROM THE ROOFTOPS OR ISN'T AT LEAST WORTH $10M is involved in it. Edwin Jackson is not allowed to be on the WS championship team (for he is black, and these are Cubs fans), but Kyle Schwarber must be on the roster (for he is from a Big Ten school, and these are Cubs fans) getting regular AB.

It's going to be just like the 1994 Expos, only with no strike to derail us. Choooo! Choooo!

The right way will be defined by Sox fans as the opposite of whatever the Cubs do. If the Cubs traded every prospect they have for guys who win a World Series here, no one besides Sox fans and maybe JimmyPasta would care.

Boiled down, the right way is whatever Lord Ricketts and his Billions dictate. This would include having the championship parade in Omaha.

Whatever. I just consider the Cubs a goofy organization. Can you imagine the shit that would be said here if the Sox held a bunting tournament in which Williams and Hahn participated? This is clown stuff.
