Any favorites? Hard to go wrong with anything from Street Fighter II, Super Metroid, or Donkey Kong Country. Virtually impossible to go wrong with Final Fantasy and Secret of Mana.

Boomer Kuwanger, Mega Man X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kOjXM0sH84 This was the stage of Mega Man X where I never tried hard to beat the stage because I just wanted the music to keep going.

Bramble stages, DKC2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J67nkzoJ_2M I didn't have to sandbag it on this one because it was goddamn hard.

Cammy, Super Street Fighter II: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG3fSt2qM7Q

All SNES choices, partly because that's my wheelhouse but more so that SNES was perfect time to care about music in video games because you had more to work with than the beep-boops on 8-bit but couldn't yet plug in pre-recorded music, so you had to get to work with that MIDI interface and actually write stuff, and if you wanted to, it could be catchy or even good.

This thread could well be me talking to myself for 20 posts like a Beardown thread but I'm prepared for that.

Halo 4 has amazing music. Particularly the title screen music.
Love Tristram Theme is the Diablo series.

Definitely. Great music, I just struggled to beat the game. This is the best song from the game, but the opening titles were pretty great, too.

I liked the good spectrum of video games I had growing up. It seems like everything now is Serious Fucking Business or Clash of Clans with very little in between. I could easily be wrong; I don't really play video games anymore.

No man...no...just, no...Steve didn't do anything for Halo 4.

You're thinking of Halo 2...which, was...interesting...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmugIaQvaSg

Not even sure someone told him there was going to be other music going on there...just let's it loose for 3 minutes...which, I guess, if you get Steve Vai, that's what you want, but I could have done without it.

So of course, when they remade Halo 2 last year for the Master Chief Collection, they remastered the entire soundtrack and brought Steve back in the studio...

I have a feeling we've done this before but it's a topic near and dear to my heart, so I dig it....

Skyrim sountrack...Jeremy Soule..."Far Horizons"

I honestly could take anything from the previous two games and I'd listen to it, but those were the ones from each that stood out in my mind.

If you're looking for the 16-bit era nostalgia, I loved me some Super Mario RPG...

And yes, Halo 4 delivered on the music, which is especially impressive given the shoes Neil Davidge was filling. I dig a lot of the stuff on it, but I've really grown to love "Arrival"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5A15Dy3D-I

I really hope 343 fights the knee jerk reaction to pick up now-free agent Marty O'Donnell to bring him back to the series...I think Neil did great work that has entitled him to another game in the series (provided he wants to do it of course) and I'd rather see Marty work on something brand new...his last three soundtracks have all consisted of varying levels of entirely new material and it's been rather enjoyable for me.

Don't go badmouthing Steve Vai though, or I will personally meet you at the Crossroads (so you won't be lonely) and teach you all about the blues.

i have 3.5 hours of straight up NES music (in all 8 bit glory), and 6 hours of various video game music otherwise. i have the entire tempest 2000 soundtrack and most of bioshock and skyrim.

i think SNES music sounds a little too MIDI-y for me. some of it is great, like anything legend of zelda, or super castlevania IV. F-zero has a great soundtrack too (i have some of that as well)...genesis had some great soundtracks.

and then there's "symphony of the night" which rocks.

I don't blame him...it's what he does...and apparently that's what they were going for....just not my cup of tea for a Halo soundtrack.
