It's very easy for Rick to remember this. Probably much easier than other people.
Did you know there are multiple reasons why Rick keeps saying 2005? It answers several questions for him, actually.

Enlighten us Spanky.....do tell all...inquiring minds want to know.

No bandwagon jumping allowed in Cub nation. 2005 probably saw lots of new White Sox fans born. Probably around 50 or so are on this message board. Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone.

This is different though. Baker, Pinella and Baylor were pro baseball players that had either played or managed on major franchises prior to the Cubs. Here we have this guy who spent 31 years in the Angels minor leagues then spent almost 10 years with a Tampa Bay organization, a city where 95% of the people don't even realize the Rays are a professional baseball team. I think its fair to ask how he is going to handle the pressure of a major market team when they struggle. How is Maddon going to handle players who are tired and hungover playing day baseball? How is Maddon going to handle the smaller clubhouse? How is Maddon going to be deal with the ramped up expectations?

I agree with you I do not see your point? I was saying the media are treating him as a perfect savior. You are with me that he will have challenges and not a sure thing (or at least shouldn't be covered as such).

Maddon will deal with it by winning a Championship. Dealt a better hand than the rest.

Yeah, not disagreeing, just saying that this is a different situation with this manager then the other high profile managers.

Thefe was no bigger bandwagon in Chicago history than the Cubs in 2003. But then, the Hawks won a cup.

2005
1982-1994 and then 2005-2015.

My White Sox fandom is on probation right now though. It may be revoked at the end of the year.

I had quit on baseball all together after the strike.

I wasn't coming back until I got the World Series I felt had been stolen from me.

Luckily, 2005.

95 Northwestern might have been bigger. Because the Cubs already had a solid base. NW fans popped up outta nowhere.

2004 White Sox attendance: 24,437
2005 White Sox attendance: 28,923
2006 White Sox attendance: 36,511
2007 White Sox attendance: 33,140

2014 White Sox attendance: 20,896

No bandwagon here. Nope.

I was pointing out your obvious incorrect statement. The Sox went from having two fans - Ligues in 2002 to zero when they went to jail. Then magically in 2005 and 2006 there are 30K showing up to the park. Now they're down to 12 or something.

I think when the Sox are good this year and they don't go to the park we can put the "Sox bandwagon" thing to rest.

The Ligues were still big Sox fans when they went to jail.
A short jail term is nothing that will discourage a Sox fan.
"All in" is merely short for "All in jail"

Not even remotely close to funny, and the Ligue's spent all afternoon at Wrigley that fateful day. Should we mention that Ted Lilly might be going to jail soon? And he was a guy that made millions in MLB.

Yes. There definitely is a White Sox bandwagon, its just a pretty small faction of people. It is what it is.

Cubs in '03 and Hawks in '09, but especially in '10, on the other hand had people who didn't even care about MLB/NHL acting like the biggest fans in the world. This was true even last year as the Hawks got further and further into the playoffs.

Frank, this is an argument that you can't win so just walk away from it.
The Ligues are an eternal black eye on Sox fandom that will never heal.
Bring up Ted Lilly and his 3-1/2 years as a Cub or even Ronnie Woo Woo's teeth and it doesn't offset the creepiness of the Ligues.
The White Sox have the Ligues etched upon them forever, like a very, very bad tattoo.

Nice work.

it's true, the 2003 Cubs had a huge bandwagon. Which should be scary to a smaller fanbase if the Cubs actually win it all and have a long term successful run. It might put the Sox out of business in Chicago. I don't write that as someone that dislikes the Sox. I actually prefer their park if I don't have to sit in the upper deck. But I think that's reality.

The fact that you think you are getting to me about something I'm open about and quite content about is funny.

I think it was more than fair of me to give up on baseball because of the strike. It's not like I switched to the Cardinals or Twins. I just gave up on baseball until I got the World Series I felt was taken from my younger self.
