Bernstein going pretty hard at Dearick, likening him to a child by saying that when Dearick says "I'm a businessman." it's like a child running around saying "I'm a firetruck!"

This is the kind of insulting commentary that got Dan called a racist by the editor of Ebony magazine back in December, and if he keeps it up he might wind up being the subject of another Deadspin article he pretends he never saw.

If Derrick Rose thinks he's a "businessman," he should know he's already awful at it.

By Dan Bernstein
CBSChicago.com Senor columnist

(CBS) Derrick Rose likes to think of himself as a “businessman” as much as basketball player, a reference he made again Monday in speaking to the media for the first time since his Feb. 27 knee surgery.

He has been clear about wanting to preserve his health for his envisioned corporate meetings after his career ends, probably imagining a real, grown-up briefcase and everything. Based on his actual approach to his business, this is sounding more like a toddler running around the house insisting he’s a fire truck.

Businesses are largely about image, with immense resources devoted to researching, understanding and responding to how consumers relate on levels both conscious and subconscious to the product, service or brand. Crafting public perception and subsequent connection is vital to a company’s success.

Rose not only doesn’t know this, he doesn’t care. And he doesn’t care that he doesn’t know.

Even after the Bulls tried to make it easy for him to do things differently this time — team doctors gave him a generous four-to-six-week window for a return from a routine knee clean-up that often sees athletes back in half that time — he refused to commit to coming back at all, content once again to mumble cluelessy about God and listening to his body and taking his time.

Asked about the medical timetable made public by his employer, he said, “Who cares?”
With this kind of image management from a self-purported “businessman,” fewer people do every time he opens his mouth.

 it was a removal of part of the meniscus, not some scope or scar tissue removal or something.

Derrick thinks he's a businessman and an actor. Dan thinks he's a lawyer, doctor, crisis manager, and Theo Epstein. It all evens out.

Bernstein saying he is a columnist, is like a child painting with watercolors saying, "I'm an artist!"

I'm not sure why Dan is so upset about Rose referring to himself as a businessman. Dan has frequently talked about the importance of players cultivating their "brand", which essentially means that each player is a multimillion dollar corporation unto himself.

But now, for some reason, considering yourself a businessman is laughably childish?

Terry just said that Rose is the most galling athlete in Chicago sports history!

he's the worst businessman ever.

I don't care if you like the product, I won't try to make it better or try harder, God told me to make it this way.

I believe it was one of the Brandon Marshall callers the other day that mentioned something about BPD and Dan’s response was something along the lines of “Why should we care what you think…YOU’RE NOT A DOCTOR” I guarantee Dan reads medical journals on the toilet.

Rose did everything he possibly could to get to where he is and get paid. He's a success with enough money to buy and sell Dan's family multiple times. Dan is obviously threatened by these types of outcomes.
