I just heard Dan talk about how one of his "sources" with the Cubs felt the best bat amongst the young players belongs to Schwarber. He said the guy gave him a three word response about his bat and it was "Babe F'ing Ruth."

First of all, it's no secret that the team is very high on him, including Theo. I apologize for not recalling exactly who said it, but one host-might have been Murph- mentioned that Theo feels most high on Schwarber's future than those of Bryant, Soler, and Baez.

In my opinion, this isn't a "source" type of thing where someone who feels Schwarber has the best bat needs to be protected because this opinion is controversial or will create some sort of issue amongst coaches, players, etc.

I'm getting tired of all these hosts, particularly Bernstein and Boers referencing their "sources" and what is supposedly going on behind the scenes in many instances. The stories and information being tossed about doesn't seem to be coming true.

And, it's not just them. I heard a sports host on WGN said sources told him the Bears did not tell Brandon Marshall he couldn't continue to do his Showtime anymore. Lo and behold, the team put out a kibosh on all players from doing shows or interviews unless it was league mandated.

Everyone's got sources, but it seems that people keep throwing things out there to see what sticks in an effort to say "I told you so". However, if it doesn't come to fruition, I don't hear too many apologizing for their misinformation.

Schwarber better hope Lil Danny's Cub source isn't Jason Parks.

I'm gonna go way out on a limb and say Schwarber won't be as good as Ruth.

Right now, just love me some SOLER. Like a more selective Vlad.

Bryant will be a great power hitter, his K's will come, but so will the HR's...

If Kyle S wants to be better than either of those guys, that some serious stuff right there...and I will say its a HUGE WIN if it happens as many called it a reach.

It's become much worse in the last year or so, but this show, in particular, can't have a conversation anymore about referencing a source for supposed inside information and/or to validate their points. I think most people just don't find it believable that Boers, who doesn't leave his house, and hasn't covered any of these teams in around 2 decades has impeccable sources. I think Bernstein uses himself as the source of his inside information, the validation of his own opinions, and most of his inside information is pretty obvious and/or can't be disproven because it's not specific.

When Schwarber can eat 24 hot dogs in between innings, then I might believe it...

Well put, BD.

I'm 95% sure Schwarber being a better hitter than Kris Bryant was brought up during the Mully and Hanley show either this week or last week. It was by a guest but forget who. It might have even been Brian or Mike who mentioned it.

This "Source" thing wasn't a part of B&B for years. Not even Terry.

When do you think it started? Maybe 4 years ago or so?

I think Dan got something legit one time. Then got drunk on how powerful that felt and decided to make up shit.

But even with Da Ma Na, Terry didn't do this "My guy" stuff. That was back in the day when Terry probably had guys.

Goff learned from his masters when he reported "James to the Bulls" after a bouncer of a club told him so.

Drinky did the same when he said "Cutler will have surgery on ankle, out for the year" after his ankle doctor speculated it could be the case.

Bouncers and their personal doctors. That's what Bernstein's boys consider sources.

On a Bill Simmons podcast, recorded and posted a few days before the 2010 NBA free agency period began, Chad Ford said that Michael Jordan's waiter at Gibsons told him LeBron was coming to Chicago. "He already told me to reserve his table." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlevzutpdYc

Sources are sources. Everybody has them. They're all different because there's too many. Bernstein might have a source that told him Schwarber is Babe Fucking Ruth. If that source exists, he or she is crazy. In the end, who cares? More than likely, Dan is making something up to be entertaining. That's what radio and ratings are about.

Terry used the sources angle today while referencing the recruitment of Cliff Alexander. He claimed that his sources told him that Illinois was never in the running for him. Other than the kids coach or parent who would really know how close the Illini were to signing him? I think that it is safe to say that Terry's source was no one close enough to know for sure where the kid would sign.

Sir gets shit and deservedly so, but he is the only one out there properly doing his job.

He attends games, he goes to pre season, he occasionally hits practices. When he tells you about a player, it is a first hand account, not some dubious source.

...and regarding Schwarber, doesn't this just feel like a pump and dump. It seems pretty clear he is an AL guy so the Cubs leak disinformation of an outrageous variety to their known mouthpiece who they know will report it on all social media. Suddenly, everyone is talking about Sid Finch. It seemed like the Yankees used to do this every year with their prospects.

The only ones who dont do the job are BB. Mully, Hanley, Spiegs, Goff all attend events, go to practices , talk to "REAL" people.

that's only partly true. He does everything you described but he still has "sources". You just don't listen to enough LoHo. Which I would take as a compliment.

Spiegs attends probably more evenst than anyone. Goof will probably take the title soon, but Spiegs go to everything he can....free food...<cheap shot at my guy>

Boers/Bernstein is the most negative sports show in the city. I have a hard time believing that they are seen as a place to drop relevant information. It's pretty close to using Jay Mariotti to feed information in a column.

Multiple people from each team call them all the time with information!

Holmes buddies up to players. If you've ever heard that show he hosts with a Bears player, it's pretty him trying to act like they are friends, and avoiding any tough questions. He's got guys like Rashied Davis he probably uses for "inside" information, but I don't know that he's ever dropped any unknown information. He loves to play press conferences on his show, and then acts as if there was a ton of information from them, but I don't think talking slowly and pretending to say something important makes it so.

If you are to believe Bernstein, he's getting texts, and can place calls at any time to find out pretty much anything he wants to know.

The shock jock of sports radio wants us to believe that he's got sources for all local teams.
