Wrong damn thread. Image This is the Cub fan compares A Russell to Derek Jeter thread.

The Schwarber = Babe Ruth thread is over here, next to the Joe Maddon = Casey Stengel thread:

Pot/Kettle?

Again, there's a big difference between making a bad deal for twelve starts from a mediocre pitcher and trading away the next Jeter and whoever you want to compare McKinney to.

Castro was compared to Jeter. Now he's a good SS who's made a couple all star teams.

Its not always Boom (Jeter part 2) or Bust (Kevin Orie).

Loved Charlie Hayes and Vinny Castilla. Always wanted one of them to play 3rd for the Cub.

Yes Fuck Gary Varsho and Fuck Steve Buechele while we're at it. I had such high hopes for him. They'll both be invited to the celebration though. Bygones and all that.

So does Schwarber suck and the Cubs are just leaking bullshit to dump him or is a Cubs exec calling him "Babe Fuckin' Ruth" evidence that he's really, really good? I wish Cub fans could pick a lane.

uh. You realize he could be a very good player but not in their long range plans due to their evaluation of him as a catcher or their evaluation that they can drive his value up more than their other "commodities" to get what they want in return? Cub fans will always disagree with each other, not sure what you mean by "pick a lane". We're not meeting to determine our collective statement on Cub prospects.

Addison Russell will be the starting SS in less than 2 years. Either Castro will be moved to 2nd base (if Baez doesn't work out great) or he could be moved to 3rd if Bryant winds up in LF, or he gets dealt. The latter seems most likely to me. Unless the mental focus improves, he will not last under Madden. Russell is rated as the best defensive SS in the system, including the major league level. He will be a fixture along with Bryant on Championship Cubs teams.

Mac : You're telling me that if Mike Schmidt were to walk in here right now... and said, "Hey, get me a Redman the Robot"... you'd say, "I'm sorry. We're all out. We're sold out, Mike"?

Clerk : Who is Mike Schmidt?

Mac : Who's Mike Schmidt! Bro, have some respect here, man.

Clerk : What are you talkin' about? I don't know who Mike Schmidt is.

Mac : You've never heard of Mike Schmidt?

Charlie : Easy, dude. Don't lose your cool.

Mac : Twelve-time All Star, three-time baseball M.V.P.?

Charlie : Maybe he doesn't know-

Mac : I don't buy it for one second, dude! Maybe he's never heard- He's the all-time leading home run hitter.

Charlie : No, he's not the all-time leading home run hitter.

Mac : For white guys he is.

Charlie : He's not even for white guys. Babe Ruth's got more than him.

Mac : Next you're gonna tell me you don't know who Von Hayes is or Steve "Bedrock" Bedrosian. I don't buy it, bitch!

Charlie : Maybe he's not a baseball fan.

Mac : He's lying! Go get me one!

Charlie : Don't lose your cool!

Mac : He's lying, dude. He's got 'em back there.

Charlie : Keep the Christmas spirit.

Mac : Von Hayes walks in here, you got one for Von Hayes?

Charlie : Dude, nobody knows who Von Hayes is!

No. He had like an incredible first 6 or 7 weeks of the season, and the players voted him in. I forgot about him until IMU Mentioned him, but he was a deserving player that year.

Then 5 months after the AS game, he signed with a Japanese team

So JORR basically says it is ridiculous to think the Cubs may win a championship in the next 5 or so years.

Don't think too much into it.

Championships are the most important thing. No World Series = no success.
Theo Epstein has multiple World Series and is a bad GM / President.
Billy Beane has no World Series and is possibly the best GM.

I get confused.

Let me clear up your confusion. Theo has worked with budgets far greater than any Beane has ever had.

Why aren't the Dodgers on a huge World Series winning streak? Why do the Yankees have only one World Series in the last 15 years?

edit: 14 years, technically.

Remember that 2003 NLCS that should cause Cubs fans to hate Mark Prior?

I can't recall what team that was the Cubs lost two...I know they went on to win the World Series...damnit, who was that team again?

Poor JORR.

He's straight up, unabashedly, with no embarrassment trolling.
There's no question in my mind that he's just trolling.
There is no other explanation.

If by July the Cubs find out they have one ace and four #4 (or worse) starters...look for Addison Jeter to get flipped to the Philies for Hamels, or some other proven arm.

Hamels has been stinking it up in ST so far this year.

That isn't helping a deal get done then.

Phillies asked for Addison Russell in a package, Cubs said no. Supposedly, Phillies demands are extremely high in any trade talks at the monent.

Russell's stock would need to go down and Hamels would need to have a very good first half.

I don't see how the Cubs would be in a position to want to obtain Cole Hamels if they've had "one ace and 4 #4's" for four months of the season. They probably won't be in the race (unless the Cubs truly are the 90's Braves lineup). There is plenty of pitching that only costs money next off-season. Cubs would wait it out.

With the expanded wild card...if your ace takes care of business, your other 4 starters only need to win 1.5 out of 4 games/37.5% of the time to be around .500 and in the hunt.
