Yes, if Arrieta goes 32-0 (likely with 32 complete game shut outs), your math checks out.

I really, really, really think Arrieta has good stuff. Not sure if he can win out.

I like your optimism though.

This just dawned on me.
I cannot believe the similarities between Dan Bernstein and JORR.
They both have a working knowledge of sports but try to make it seem like they are total experts.
They both dig their heels in when they give their opinion and never back down, no matter how good the argument against it is.
They both seem to try to create controversy by spewing fallacious facts and theories just to be argumentative.
They display unshakable arrogance and truly think they are smarter or better than everyone else.
Hell, JORR could actually be Dan Bernstein for all I know.

yep. be interesting to see which side should've made a deal last month.

if the Phillies should've shot for less, [ Baez ]; or if the Cubs should've dumped Russell before he gets exposed in AAA/MLB [j/k].

Figure if it's a July deadline deal, Phillies would want to see Russell up in the majors for a few weeks before taking him in a trade.

People are saying Hamels to the Rangers, but the Rangers were already projected to be last in the AL West before Darvish's injury.
So why go all in on Hamels when you're likely going to waste this season anyhow.

Don't you think Beane would have acquired Arrieta if he was any good?

Wait a minute. Most of you are constantly pimping for Ricketts to get more revenue streams to help the Cubs win, but suddenly the budget doesn't matter. Do you realize how ridiculous you sound? I guess not.

Abreu isn't setting the world on fire this spring, yet you have brought that up in at least 3 or 4 different threads, IMU.

The Cubs could absolutely pull the trigger on this and send Addison Jeter to the Phils. They already have one of the better shortstops (at least with the bat) in the NL. Do you really think Addison Jeter is going to show up on the Northside and put up numbers equal to Castro's first few years? I'll step out onto a 36" diameter limb and say "no" he won't.

Yes, if Arrieta goes 32-0 (likely with 32 complete game shut outs), your math checks out.

If any pitcher gets 32 starts in by the July 31 trade deadline....

there's a stat abbreviated "Wtm" "team wins in games started".

works like this, an NL pitcher went 13-2 by the trade deadline last season...but his team actually won 14 games he started....that extra win is "Wtm". Even tho the starting pitcher doesn't get credit for it, the team still does.

works the same for .500 starting pitchers as it does for aces. if your gaggle of #4's goes .500...there's a good chance their team has won more of the games they started than their credited with W's for. [depending on bullpen performance and late game offense and WINT etc]

so, yeah, if Lester's as advertised, and he gets the NL bump a pitcher jumping AL to NL normally gets. the rest of the Cubs staff can post a .500 win percentage and the Cubs still be at or near or even above .500 by the trade deadline.[again, depending on bullpen performance and late game offense and WINT and a host of other factors]. Chances are the team lost as many or possibly even more of the games the .500 arms started, but the cushion the ace gives you can cover those extra losses and still have a team at or just below .500 and in the hunt for one of those extra WC spots.

And with the expanded Wild Card, it's possible Ricketts would green light a trade for a proven arm (like a Hamels) for the stretch run to take the spot of an Edwin Jackson or whatever pitcher becomes odd-man out by then.

Do you understand how conversation actually work? His post was a response to this:

Theo Epstein has multiple World Series and is a bad GM / President.

Let me clear up your confusion. Theo has worked with budgets far greater than any Beane has ever had.

Although I suppose he will now insist it wasn't and instead it was simply a thought that popped into his head that he decided to type in this thread.
