You seem to be confusing the Sox WIN NOW philosophy vs The Cubs building a team that can compete year after year.

I do not recall Theo saying they are going ALL IN to WIN NOW.

for the math impaired 162 games in 2021 is FAR SUPERIOR to 12 games in 2015.

No one could seriously believe it is actually a baseball decision. Strictly finances. I'm sure the Sox would do the same.

I remember the Brewers did the same thing with Braun, and I think it was May they brought him up. And it was a business decision also, he was definitely ready to hit and he had a great supplier back then.

As JORR said, doesn't the likely fact that Bryant will be pissed count for anything? Or that other free agents will not view the Cubs as a class organization? Or that if the Cubs win the WS in the next few years, Ricketts probably won't worry about needing Bryant anymore? Etc, etc.

If the Cubs were the only organization to wait a few weeks to being a prospect up this could matter. Bryant will go to who ever pays him the most money if he pans out. Same with most free agents.

If the Cubs finish a couple games out of the playoffs in 2015, your statement is clearly wrong, regardless of 2021.

I believe he has said they are ready to win NOW. There is a clear inconsistency in words and actions that had nothing to do with selling tickets this year.

It would be a nice PR move to have Bryant start with the team. It'd be a nice way of committing to wining.

I do think he needs more work on defense though.

He's had all fall, winter, and spring to work on defense. It ain't gettin' better in 12 days.

If Kris Bryant in the minors to start the season dictates the team's ability to make the playoffs, then they have bigger problems on the roster.

Keeping Bryant down makes it easier to keep 3 catchers

All part of The Plan

It might. Or maybe he'll come up and make a few game losing errors and THAT will keep them out of the playoffs.

I hope he starts on day 1 though. I think the offense justifies the defense.

the decision is whether an extra year of control is worth the marginal upgrade of bryant over olt for ~30 days.

again, the cubs aren't contenders right now. there is too much variance. the cubs are depending on rookies at 2nd, RF, 4SP and possibly 3rd to be vital contributors.

everything needs to break right just to be in contention for the wild card.

this debate is so dumb.

His owner definitely said that not winning the division this year would be a disappointment.

The concern for the Cubs, by non Cubs fans is touching and it's making me a little emotional. You guys are good people.

It's funny isn't it? I understand what it is though. Anyone with any business sense would take all factors into consideration...and make the obvious decision. Rozner used the example of Heyward and Atlanta. They ended up trading him 1.5 years earlier than potentially they would have needed to.

Heyward didn't turn out to be that good though. Everyone is assuming Bryant is going to be Pujols for his first 6 years.

"so far in the media"...you obviously don't read Gordon Wittenmeyer.

No, I don't. I have internet.

asked and answered. Either he or his dad complained to said newspaper writer. Which quickly got swept under the rug. I agree with the move...but if the money's even when it's time to re-sign, I'd expect another team besides the Cubs to have a good shot.

Can you link to the article, or post the important paragraphs?

Fair Use.

Very true. That is just another reason to keep him down. Who knows what he will be.

Im just focusing on your Heyward statement though, not saying anything about keeping him down, etc

Regardless of what the Cubs or Rizzo or Lester say, they aren't going to the playoffs this year. I'll stick by my 2018 prediction.
