I don't think he's a franchise QB, but, I also don't think that he's just "above average" either. The Browns rank 9th in the NFL in total offense, and 5th in the NFL in scoring. So, obviously there's something there. I would like to see him in a Bears uniform.

Hes right Mac, Derek Anderson has played very well this year. Hasnt earned Franchise QB status yet but he doesnt appear to be a fluke.

Cmon FF, it's easier to post something rude, like correcting someones spelling on a message board. than it is to make a solid argument.
Kinda went Urlacher on him there Mac. Don't you know the message board is a conduit to your biggest fans?

Not sure.

Anderson is a RESTRICTED free agent after this season. The Browns will give him the max tender, meaning they'd need a 1st and 3rd round pick in return should anybody sign him.

Harry would argue "Ah... why would they do that when they have so much money invested in Brady Quinn?"

And I'd point to San Diego, who did the same exact thing with Michael Turner last offseason. "Ah... why would they do that when they have so much money invested in Ladainian Tomlinson - and Turner's just a backup."

I'll bet Harry was hoping the Bears would sign Scott Mitchell, too.

You're right Grid. There is no way in hell Cleveland lets him go. Why? Every team searches for a good QB. Looks like they have one.

They'll trade the ND pretty boy. He was a late first rounder. Some team will trade a 2nd pick for him. Why? Because he hasn't proved he sucks. If he was worth a 1st rounder to the Browns he'll be worth a 2nd rounder to some NFL team.

After the Browns sign Anderson teams can hold the Browns hostage and just give up a 3rd rounder even. After giving Anderson a huge deal there is no need for Cleveland to hold on to Brady Quinn and other teams know that.

If what you say is true- and I'm skeptical, Beardown- I'm officially campaigning for the Bears to trade for Brady Quinn. I don't think it's going to work out like that though.

They can give Anderson a ONE year deal.

The Bears should go after Michael Turner in free agency and draft an OT and QB in Rounds One and Two (unsure of the order without knowing their draft position).

...and I called Danny Z up with this little nugget when I heard the boys talking about 'tanking the season' as they probably won't make the playoffs and if they do it won't matter because New England (or Indy) will steamroll everybody.

New England has SF's first round draft pick and would (as it stands today) pick FIFTH. Imagine Darren McFadden on that team. LOL... New England was forced to forfeit THEIR first round pick due to the SPYGATE soap opera.

http://www.nfl.com/standings?category=league

I'm a huge draft geek, and when you look at which teams actually need a young QB to build their franchise around, it's not too many teams:

Miami just took a guy in the 2nd round last year
Atlanta
Chicago
Minny
Tampa
Houston??? I dunno, they paid a bundle to get Schaub
Seattle ??? Maybe but I doubt it
Jacksonville ??? Probably
Baltimore??? Probably, but they just gave Boller a contract extension

The Loverboy headband wearin' Rob Johnson was a flash in the pan that got overpaid for several good games down in Jacksonsville too.

Everybody is correct on your list except Houston and Tampa Bay. Neither team will take a 1st round QB. Dolphins are interesting. They'll have the number one pick it looks like. They might be willing to trade that number one for a 5-15 first rounder and a 2nd rounder and maybe more.

The Dolphins are old and need alot.

Didn't they do the same thing with Brees while having Rivers

Kind of. I think they franchise tagged Brees, as he was unrestricted. He did great, but blew had his throwing arm (shoulder I think) dislocated in a meaningless late season game. Then they just let the walking wounded sign elsewhere - and Miami chose to trade for Culpepper instead of signing Brees. D'oh!

It'll be interesting. If the season ended today, Miami and St Louis would be 1-2 in some order. Neither team needs a RB (McFadden) or a QB. Atlanta could obviously use a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, and they've alienated their best young playmaker on defense (Hall). I can't believe I'm amped for the draft in flippin' October!

I kind of like Anderson, too. My point was to slow Harry's roll on the phrase "franchise quarterback" and using last year's Cleveland stats as a barometer for the guy's "stardom."
Welcome to the bored Phil.
And in case everybody's missed it, this number of posts now have eclipsed Harry's weight. Took more than two years to get here!

Didn't even realize the comma was missing, Jagr Either way, this is still a message board. You can easily be bored here, but its our board and we'll go from there.

I agree with Grid. We need to focus on Burner Turner. The QB situation is unknown because we are not sure if we can get by with Griese or if Orton will ever be a long term option.

Also, if we do not sign an expensive QB, maybe they can find a way to keep Lance Briggs.

Unless Joe Thomas, Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow come along, I don't see Dererk Anderson being that much of a difference maker. That said, I'd have no problem if the Bears made a move for him. I'd also like to see Urlacher moved to Lance Briggs' linebacker position and bring in Zorich to play the middle. Bearsss

I like Jurko's idea better...
the Bears need offensive line help immediately. Cedric Benson might actually be a 4.5 yard/carry back if the line didn't suck so much.

Need a QB:
2008
a) Rex is gone, Greise is #1, Orton is #2, draft pick is #3.
b) all three return....ugh.
c) Rex is gone, Orton is #3, Greise and Free Agent are 1-2.
d) Rex is gone, Orton is gone, Greise is #1, Free Agent, Draft pick.

Damn, if Griese is #1 in almost every conceivable scenario that doesnt exactly bode well.

I think the assumption is that if they bring in a "decent" Free Agent there would be competition.

it's funny, why is everyone adopting a "wait and see" stance when it comes to anderson. last year, everyone annointed tony romo as the 2nd coming immediately. yes, anderson has some weapons, but none of them are in the league of T.O. and dallas' great running game last year.

i'm an anderson believer, but probably because he single-handedly saved my fantasy team from disaster.
