I would not attack the Cubs for that. The Cubs have potentially one of the best power hitters in the NL, who has been MLB ready since last season, sitting there and they are going to put him in the minors. I don't care if its 12 days or 2 months. The question is this, 'Do the Cubs have a better roster with Kris Bryant or without.' The answer is clearly with, and therefore he should be on the field against the Cardinals on Opening Nite.

If Rodon had a 1.5 ERA and a3:1 K:BB ratio, then Sox fans would be screaming for him to break camp with the big club. Its clear though that he is nowhere near as ready as Bryant is.

After the Blackhawks won the first Cup and were all in (salary cap wise), everyone was pissed the next year because of the talent unload. So even when a team wins, there are still critics.
Don't compare the Hawks and the Cubs. The Hawks WON a championship. They actually won something. And the year before that they went pretty far into the playoffs. Sure they had to flip some things around due to the salary cap (something baseball doesn't have), and then the Hawks WON again 3 years later.

I guess what I cannot wrap my head around and understand is that how Cubs fans are seemingly OK with missing the playoffs again this year. Since Theo took over, the Cubs have been one of the worst teams in all of baseball. Now they have a true ace at the top of the rotation. They have Bryant ready to go. They have upgraded at catcher. The starting rotation seems to be at least serviceable for competing this year. Castro made some progress last year after his poor season. Three straight years of being in the cellar, and Cubs fans are still saying, "This team isn't ready to compete." That is terrible. Cubs fans should be going insane saying its time to win now.

I know the Sox have lost more games than the Cubs the last two years. No Sox fan is happy about that. However, in the past 18 months Rick Hahn has taken the White Sox from a 99 loss team, and turned them into a contender. Some people are even saying that the Sox are the favorite for the AL Central this year. Hahn did all of this in half the time Theo had, with a farm system that was all but totally drained, and he didn't have to sign a pitcher to a deal where 3 or 4 years from now it could be pretty ugly. Sure the Sox still have a lot to prove, and in my eyes they need to make the playoffs this year, or come very damn close. My point that is that if Hahn can inherit a 99 loss team and turn them around in 18 months, why couldn't Theo do the same in 3 years? Some of you here are saying that its OK for it to be a 4th year as well. I know the Cubs haven't won anything in decades and that fans almost expect something bad to happen, but I just can't wrap my head around the mentality of waiting for 2016, 2018, 2020, when the only Championship worth going for right now is the 2015 World Series.

Get a play in WC spot and at the very least, you have a chance. Last year's AL Pennant winners was in that WC 'play in' game. And lets say the Cubs do that get play in game, or miss that position by a game or two. Do you not think that playing in some pressure packed games in September (or possibly October) is going to help the development of these younger guys?

Cubs fans do the same damn thing to Sox management, IMU, and you know it. Its a two way street with the trolling and team bashing.

Huh? I think Rick Hahn is doing a good job. I prefer the path the Cubs have taken as I think it will lead to a more sustained period of success, but Hahn as quickly gotten the Sox to be a contender again.

All Cubs / Sox hating aside, I think this is wrong KWood. Sox will have a better team than the Cub this year. I think they will win their division. I like their off season moves. If losing pitcher Jeff Samardzija can finally win some ballgames, they will be right there all year.

No.

Both the Cubs and White Sox are just over .500

Just like I stated in this thread where everything must go right for Cubs to get a Wild Card the same is for the White Sox.
Catcher/3rd/2nd/RF are all huge questions.
The shortstop is 33.
The CF is injury prone and is unlikely to play 150 games
The 1B forgot how to hit HRs
The juicing LF got paid. How will he perform?
The ace broke his foot. How many starts will he miss when he has his annual "rest" be in the middle of the season.
And Hahn spent 15 million on two pen arms that could very likely suck shit as bullpen performances are known to.

It's the Chicago Bears optimism all over again because of splashy offseason moves. Happens every single time.

Yeah but outside of Cleveland, I think their competition got weaker.

Yes, but did the Tigers get 7 worse and the Sox get 11 games better?

I doubt it.

No, I do think they can compete for a WC

But do you think that being able to maybe win 85 games means you should mortgage the future and go ALL IN? I dont.

These rules are so dumb. The right move for the Cubs would be to send him to the minors. I'd be pissed if I were the player though but it seems like the whole sport of baseball is built around screwing minor leaguers to the benefit of those who have made it.

They've already burned whatever hometown discount they could have gotten from him by not bringing him up last year so I'd keep him down as long as needed. The Sox should do the same with Rondo.

We now take you to a Cubs game in early April:

Mike Olt up with the tying run on 3rd....and that's strike 3 game over.

Cubs finish the season 87-75,one game out of the final PO spot.

The CF is injury prone and is unlikely to play 150 games He needs to stay healthy. I think having better corner OFs this year will help Eaton.
The 1B forgot how to hit HRs   Another attempt at trolling...poor trolling at that.
The juicing LF got paid. How will he perform? Can't you say that Lester got paid, and how will be perform? Well, YOU can't because you can't question anything Cubs. For Melky, I'll guess he will put up numbers a bit better than his career averages (12 HRs, 70 RBI, .754 OPS) because the Cell is a LOT easier to hit in than his recent home parks
The ace broke his foot. How many starts will he miss when he has his annual "rest" be in the middle of the season. Two starts at most in April. He'll start at least 25 games this year.
And Hahn spent 15 million on two pen arms that could very likely suck shit as bullpen performances are known to. Not at all likely. Sure, bullpens are a crapshoot from year to you, but look at what the Sox did last year and try to honestly and objectively tell me that Robertson, Duke, Jennings (and a healthy Nate Jones later in the year) will be worse or equal to what the Sox pen did last year.

It's the Chicago Bears optimism all over again because of splashy offseason moves. Happens every single time. What you attempt to dismiss as "splashy" 26 of 32 baseball executives disagree with you, as they voted the White Sox to be the most improved AL team from last year. I'll take their word over yours.

Boras is doing his job, trying to get his client eligible for free agency a year earlier. But the Cubs are not going to take the bait and make a dumb decision. He will spend the first 2-3 weeks in the minors and then be in the majors. It's the smart move. The team is much more likely to compete for a title in 2016.

So you wrote all that without refuting my main point. The White Sox are improved but not contenders.

My favorite point though is that somehow having better corner outfielders will prevent Eaton from runnig full speed face first into walls or not pull a hammy?

Asking for help.

Will now sit back and take notes. Possibly in crayon.

Adam Eaton signs a five year contract.

Oh my goodness, how could they have possibly signed a guy beyond free agency!?
