Another jealous Sox fan upset because the Cubs have the best prospects.

I'm always concerned when this dead arm thing happens becausecIve seen it used as an excuse when there is a real injury

I don't think that's the case here but who knows

I hear the guy the Cubs are eyeing for the 2021 draft posted a 2.000+ OPS in Babe Ruth League ball. He's like the next Babe Ruth combined with Albert Pujols better hitting twin brother. WORLD SERIES!

does this mean that we're going to have to cancel the parades circa october when they make the playoffs?

the other thing i remember from fantasy baseball is that lester used to be a jekyll-n-hyde pitcher who either started off !!!!!! and faded down the stretch to end up with his ~3.25 ERA, or he started off with like a 5.50-6.00 ERA through may and then he'd turn it around and end up with his 3.25 ERA, minus the occasional 4.00+ ERA season. i used to refer to him as haren east because of that dichotomy.

if he does that jekyll-n-hyde thing now that he's paid i reckon it's going to be that much more fun around here!

If he wasn't such a good baseball player and only a GREAT athlete Kenny would steal him before Theo had a chance.

i browsed my facebook news feed today and saw an old friend of mine toting a picture of his toddler son in a cubs hat saying something like "this boy is raised right #northsider" so i had to take the piss a little bit and reply "hey you know with the cubs farm system being so good nowadays i wouldn't be surprised if he's baseball america's #154 prospect this season"

Seems to be the standard response from the plan fans.

Agreed. This is especially curious in March. If a guy has "dead arm" in August, that is understandable. Clearly I'm a few semesters shy of my medical degree, but I'm not really sure how a guy can have dead arm after throwing 8 innings in the Cactus League.

isn't dead arm in spring training a relatively common thing? i know that zack grienke gets some shot in his arm and downtime every spring, and off the top of my head i can swear i hear about this stuff all the time cuz it'd make sense to me that after ~4-5 months off of ostensibly not in a MLB-caliber throwing program when you first come back and have a week or two of working out the arm it's gonna be like "naw fuck you i wanna go back to being rich and chilling in cabo! THIS MOTION IS UNNATURAL YOU Caller Bob!" but then you soldier on through it and build up arm strength and you'll be back out there on opening day.

of course, i could be wrong. but what's the fun in that?

Maybe it is a common thing, sini. I'm not sure.

yeah indeed i think it is, because when doing the modern anticlimactic thing of throwing 4 words in google (spring training dead arm) i got a whole heap of stories about lester here, and this one by our guy jesse rogers from espn.com seems to back up what i thought:

---

MESA, Ariz. – OK, Chicago, take a deep breath.

Cubs pitcher Jon Lester says his “dead arm” is nothing to be concerned about and it would not stop him from pitching if this were the regular season.

“It’s not something out of the ordinary,” Lester said Saturday morning. “There’s no point in trying to grind things out now. If this was April 15, it wouldn’t be an issue.”

Lester was scratched from his scheduled spring start on Saturday, but says he’s not in any pain and that it’s just normal “body fatigue.”

“You can ask every pitcher: It’s an every-year thing for everybody,” Lester said.

Most pitchers have described “dead arm” as a form of fatigue where the ball just doesn’t feel right leaving the hand and simply doesn’t have the same zip on it. Teammate Jason Hammel said Saturday that when he has it, there’s no “late life” to his pitches. The only thing of note for Lester is that he usually experiences dead arm either earlier in spring training or later in April.

“Just getting back to doing this every five days,” he said. “It’s nothing to be alarmed about.”

You either cut him and eat the money or you call Baltimore and take Ubaldo Jimenez off their hands.

Edwin Jackson on the mound reminds me of how they propped up Morgan Freeman in front of Greeleys.
