I guess I just never made that connection. I grew up in a condo with an in ground pool.

What is the difference between above ground and in ground money wise?

About 15 grand, minimum.

Above ground pools were very common where we grew up.

I think I would take an above ground pool over no pool, but that's just me.

If I wasn't going to dig a proper in-ground pool, I'd rather pay the resident-discount fee to go to Orland Park's pool, which is one of the best, than have a fiberglass and aluminum cheap-strosity like that polluting my backyard.

No to mention the maintenance.

Oh, yeah, I dont really care for public pools. Talk about white trash :D

I have an in ground one at my condo now and I dont have to worry about maintenance so Im good.

Do it. They're really not that much work. Opening and closing a pool takes a few hours, but overall, they're fairly easy to maintain. You'll be soooo glad you did it from July til September.

Yes, I'm a hill-rod, white-trash buffoon...

There are some nice options for blow up type pools these days with dimensions of an above ground pool. Then you don't have the backyard clutter for the other 9 months of the year and it is a fraction of the cost.

Never understood the attraction of a pool in this climate where it might be useable from May to September. More realistically it'd be used mid-June to mid-September.

If you're desperate for outdoor above ground water activities get an above ground hot tub.

I think in this thread, its more of that people who clearly don't like me (panther, SH, Kirkwood) are using this as a vehicle to just poke fun at me. Because clearly Alsip, Batavia, and Ohio are full of mansions and millionaires...

The only reason this came up is because its basically a free pool, filter, solar cover, etc. We would just have to set up our yard and move it from Evergreen to our house. With this weather, I am in no fucking mood to call pool places either.

Wait until the next big storm, and swim in the flooded parking lot of da Jewels in Alsip.

Yeah, those things exploded in the last few years and I know guys with insane houses (far from white trash) that use them.

I had a house with an in-ground pool for a few years. It was GLORIOUS. Nothing like waking up and diving into the pool at 6 AM to get the juices flowing. Kept it heated well into October. My wife had a few female friends with tight little packages that enhanced the feel-good atmosphere.

Some of the seediest people on earth are "pool guys." I had a few of them before I got the hang of opening/closing the pool. Unreliable alcoholics that would constantly bash the other guy's ability and character.

In my limited experience, this would seem to fit 'firewood guys' to a T as well.

In the very early stages, but my wife and I are talking about getting an above ground swimming pool. Her mom has one (4' deep, guessing about 20' across), and she's moving so we are kicking around the idea of taking it.

Anyone ever move a pool? Anyone know of a guy/company who does this, and possibly sets it up at the new location? We would have to level part of our backyard as well. The area it would have to go with no wires above is clearly not level. What sort of cost might we be looking at?

I'm going to work the phones tomorrow calling some companies in between interviews to get an idea, but figured I would ask here to see if anybody has any experience with this.

Thanks!

You might want to consider draining the water first. That would make it easier.

Most of them seem to do okay in their "Bow-Chicka-Wow-Wow" endeavors...

it's amazing how many people on new lenox have pools... look at google earth, especially the new subdivisions.... tiny backyards with above ground pools. my neighbor lets his pool go to hell, it looks awful and the neighbor never uses it.

My thoughts on above ground pools has nothing to do with you.

Mrs Newper and I and family are looking to move. I have never owned a pool, but I already hate the idea of owning one. I don't really like even the idea of owning a hot tub. Should that be a deal breaker for a house? It seems similar to the time that someone bought three pounds of cooked chunked chicken and said that they would eat it in salads and stuff. And now it is a month and a half later and the bag of chicken isn't open. What a shock -- this is why I do the shopping. In any event, our youngest is 6th grade, next is 9th. I just don't see a pool being useful. I would rather have a pile of manure honestly because that can take care of itself.
