Might as well send him to minor league camp now and get it over with.

He seems like a good guy and has handled all this with great aplomb. That said, there's absolutely no way you can run him out there every 5 days or whatever it may be as a 5th starter.

They should have been grooming him for a bullpen role if possible.

Real bad contract by Theo/Jed

Cannot win them all. At this point, you have to stash him at the back of the bullpen or find a trade...any trade.

Yes it's time. Eat the dough and move on. He is all done. As a Cub anyway. And good luck to the guy in future endeavors.

@GDubCub: Bryant turns inning-ending double play -- from left field. Makes catch and throws behind runner at second to get him on close play.

He needs to stop screwing up their excuses. He going to come down with an injury soon.

I am starting to think he is to good to be on the Cub opening day roster.

Did you listen to Theo's comments yesterday? I don't think there's any chance whatsoever.

I'm starting to get reasonably excited about Mike Olt. Some scouts saying they think he can put out close to gold glove caliber defense at 3rd. If he can do that an OPS .725-.750, becomes quite a valuable piece and allows Bryant to move to the OF which is likely better long term for him.

Let me decipher what the pork man was actually trying to say:
He was taking a shot at the rest of Cubs roster by attempting to say that Bryant is TOO good for the opening day roster.

Go Brewers.

The ultimate pie in the sky wish is that Olt figures it out and locks down 3rd base for the foreseeable future. However, the much more realistic hope is that Olt can provide some pop off the bench in a reserve role. He would be extremely valuable if he can play 3rd, 1st and some OF two or three times a week.

I know hoping Olt plays GG caliber 3rd and OPS's mid 700's is Spring Training drunk, but I really like the idea of moving Bryant out of the IF.

I don't think a .750 OPS is crazy talk for Olt. Again, at one point he was a huge hitting prospect. Guys can still figure it out in their mid to late 20's.

I think he will play good defense. Gold glove is a little tough though.

If May's roster looks like:

C: Montero, Ross
1B: Rizzo
2B: Baez, La Stella
SS: Castro
3B: Olt
LF: Bryant, Coghlan, Denorfia
CF: Fowler, Szczur
RF: Soler
UT: Alcantara
SP: Arrieta, Lester, Hammel, Hendricks, Wood
RP: Rondon, Strop, Ramirez, Grimm, Motte, Rosscup

Not shabby.

2012 Chicago Cubs.

Several NL teams have used 6-man bullpens in the last several years. It isn't my job to do your complete research. Feel free to find other examples if you feel you must.

If you feel you need another bullpen arm, add Wada or Doubront and remove Szczur or Baez. (This move makes the team worse.)

Maybe late in the year you would go with an 11 man staff, but I would hate to start out the year like that. Hell I have seen the Brewers have a 13 man staff at times over the last couple of years.

almost every MLB team carries 13 players and 12 pitchers... in fact most of 2014 the Cubs had 12 players and 13 pitchers...I am just curious and would like you to name just two or three teams that had a a 14/11 split... every roster I looked at was 13/12 and I did do my research... it's called going to over 60 games a year in person and I am old school enough to keep a scorecard at each game.

I advised you that you could perform your own research. You asked for one team; I gave you one team.

The Cubs might carry 3 catchers. No room for Bryant or extra arms with a useless 3rd receiver on the roster!

Are we counting Schwarber as a pitcher or a catcher?

Did Babe Fucking Ruth count as a pitcher or catcher?

He's so talented he will do both. Throw a pitch then run real quick and catch it himself. After two years with the big club he will be the GM, VP of Baseball Operations, Foreman for the ongoing bleacher project, and bigfan's personal breakfast partner. He's so good he won't even get a statue. "The Bean" will be renamed Schwarbergate by 2030.
