Quote:
Thirteen years after the original series run, FOX has ordered the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES, a thrilling, six-episode event series which will be helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.

Hey, a show I watched from back when I watched TV shows!

If it picks up the alien narrative, I'll watch.

Incidentally, I have a theory that this show was largely an allegory about the proletarianization of white professional men.

Gillian Anderson is rarely spoken of in terms of all time bad career moves. How has that acting career been going Gillian?

She got naked, so it's got that going for it.

This move kinda reeks of maybe we can jump start our careers since no one gives a shit about either one of us anymore.

Mulder's Californication series was pretty good, at least the 2 seasons I watched.

Gillian recorded some half-way listenable electronic tunes at one point. I think she got knocked up by a gafffer or boom mic operator from the show and semi-retired to motherhood.

Casting a couple twentysomethings 20 years ago turns out to pay dividends down the road.

Robert Patrick, I think the T2's guy name is? he was on Adam Carolla's podcast and talked about how until he did X-Files, his post-T2 career was shite, thanks to typecasting as a heavy/villain:

https://youtu.be/yfbThZv8UJ0

T-1000's brother was in NIN and the lead singer of Filter (the band with the Bud Dwyer song). Explains why Patrick prances about dressed like a regular at NEO well into his 50's.

He's a quick/funny guy on the podcast. unlike most actor types on those things.

Didn't Scully come out a couple years ago?

I will also watch. I'm certain it will deal with the mythology. I think aliens were supposed to attack by 2012. Rumor is they're going to explain why it didn't happen.

The mythology was compelling and probably kept the series going a few extra seasons.
Toward the end, it felt like the mythology episodes always ended the same way:

Mulder and Scully drive a late-model 4 door GM sedan out into BFE; see something they aren't supposed to see;
get spotted and then chased by black helicopters or whatever. They spend forever running, running, running (taking up
an entire segment in a 37 minutes of content show) and eventually, inevitably get away.

Make it show-mythology oriented, I'm in. Make it monster of the week style, I'll read about it somewhere.

That said, folks in the thread that haven't given Fringe a chance, you're really missing out. That said, be patient; the first year is for slow-building the characters. You'll thank me during the final scene with the camera pulling out of the office Olivia is sitting in.

they need to find a way to bring back the lone gunmen...make up an excuse, something saved them...they were the biggest thing missing from that dreadful "i want to believe" movie. i mean they could've at least given it some much needed life.

i wouldn't think they'd do a limited series of 6 episodes to do a monster of the week--maybe to get things started.

the best episodes were written by darin morgan. but vince gilligan's "unusual suspects" is a top 5 all time for me.

I think "Soft Light" by Gilligan with the guy who plays Monk is pretty underrated. Not top 5 for sure, maybe top 40, but there were a hell of a lot of episodes.

My Top 10 'one off's' would be:

10. "Beyond the Sea"
9. "Eve"
8. "War of the Coprophages"
7. "Small Potatoes"
6. "Ice"
5. "Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man"
4. "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose"
3. "Unusual Suspects"
2. "The Unnatural"
1. "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'"

basically episodes that aren't part of the bigger alien mythos...even though "musings" and "suspects" are continuity stories, they're basically just "origin stories". like pilots in themselves.

"Home" doesn't crack the top 10?

"home" would be in the top 15, along with "the host" and "pusher".

Obviously because Indiana Jones gave them back their skull
