I'm a lurker and a now podcaster out here in Vegas.

Pre Penn State scandal they were still generally funny. I was at the remote that had Ronny Woo Woo walk in and start his wooing right over Bernstein. Both of the guy's looks were priceless. That being said, that is a long time ago. Bernstein's well known gimmick is that he's an know it all ass wipe to his callers. Whether this is his real life persona is of little importance to me. He's the core problem here. My listening time has gradually decreased over the years. My feeling on the show has gone from good most of the time to hit or miss post Penn State. I've been scrounging on the podcast for any part of the show (in the hourly title) in hoping that the goofy side comes out.

There were three defining points where I was lost. The first was Bob in Niles. I actively tuned off after I heard the first review. How any person can sit there and get on a high horse during "Important Radio" can exploit someone who's clearly not there? The second when Dan mentioned the "Golden Age of GM's in Chicago" point. He later backtracks and denied ever saying that on WYC. Instead of owning it, Bernstein will act like a three year who got his bottle taken away. I believe City of Fools was the caller in this case. The third was the flip flop on Brandon Marshall. If you want to stake a claim and call the other side an idiot. I'm fine with him doing that. However, you don't get to deny the original position (liking Marshall as a stud) and now call the other side an idiot. You planted your flag. Bite the bullet and say that you were on the wrong side of it. You'll actually get some credit.

You don't get to "evolve" on the gay issue either after joking on it for years. You don't get to wave the rainbow flag after playing the Homer Simpson gay drops for ten years.

Stop with the fake sources too.

If I want politics, I will listen to a political show.

Either own the Patrick Sharp story or don't. Don't make insinuations and then oil your way out of it.

I don't listen anymore and I really don't miss it. I'm not interested in hate listening. To Bernstein any listener is the same. It matters none to him how they feel. I will actually dial in when Boers has any other partner. He reverts to the old Terry who is funny and isn't afraid to take on a topic. I don't blame Boers one bit for shutting up, parrot Dan and cash the check. Who wouldn't take the free half a million?

It's a shame because the show once was really good. Now I feel that Chicago sports talk is at the lowest point in years.

aside from any and all ball-busting, welcome (back) to the CSFMB! you're 100% on point with everything you said, and much like you i too have lost my favorite damn radio show to the ravages of time, FOTS status, and now social justice. VERY. SMART/IMPORTANT. RADIO. is here to stay, and i reckon FOTStein has enough juice in the game to basically say "DON'T LISTEN! WE DON'T NEED YOU!" because that's generally his thick-skinned response to any criticism.

i genuinely think that he thinks he's helping/saving the world by taking his once "stupid bad and gay" show and turning it into a platform to gentrify the minds of its listeners, you know, if you didnt have FOTStein in your life you might still believe the folly that going to NFL games is a great way to get in a giant group and emote en masse as you watch your football team. however, THE NFL IS MADE FOR HOME CONSUMPTION. only idiots go out and freeze in teh snow, and just because you did that doesnt give you any special status because bernstein saw it all and thensome from his couch. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT DON'T LISTEN!

also man, i have to be real with you... before the whole penn state scandal i was kind of on the fence about child rape, but after some VERY IMPORTANT RADIO dan singlehandedly changed my mind into thinking child rape was bad. and this was a monumental achievement cuz when he started his crusade i have to admit i got a little chubbed up just hearing all these salacious shower stories, but then dan told me child rape was BAD and i cut my dick off and things got way better. hang in there buddy, the same will happen to you too and hopefully you can keep your dick too!

Dan on the radio is different than his real life persona. The show is still good but it's changed. Change is inevitable after 15 years.

Actually he isnt....he is a weasely lil shit in person as well, but drops the fake and disingenuous HELLO...

Try some ESPN....its at least real..

disagree completely, bigfan. He may play the bad guy on the radio but the very first time I met him at a remote, he took almost the entire break talking to me, who he'd previously only talked to on the air about life, my spouse, his spouse, the radio biz etc. The next break he did it again while Terry stretched his legs with on of the Flying Zarang brothers. He's a nice guy in person. That same day I met Matty and he also was a genuine guy who took even more time to talk, gave me his cell number, etc (at that point I had thought about using my degree to get into radio). Terry's a bit more reserved in person but he'll still tell you all the stories you want to hear. Unfortunately I met Baby McNown that same day. Actually he's quite nice in person too, gives off a Baldy McGrindy feel. Who is also a nice guy. And before everyone gets on me for meeting all these guys and acting like I think I'm special, hey, just go to the remote and you're likely to have the same experience. Meet the guys once and they'll remember you the rest of the times you see them.

However, yes, the show is a tough listen since Penn State and CTE. Shows do change. I still get enough out of it to listen every day I can. I'm not above calling them on their wrongs, hence calling about the golden age of GM's. But the show still beats everything else for me. What that says about me and sports radio in general, I'll let others be the judge.

I had similar experiences with Silvy. He sat down with us for an hour after one of his appearances. He remembers me still and takes time to talk at remotes. I just have never had the urge to attend a B&B remote. Hell, they were a few blocks from my house recently, and I chose a nap.

B&B is just a great hate listen for some people. You can't tell off your boss or your wife but you can tell off Dan Bernstein!

Fellow lurker who has contemplated writing a similar post for a while now so thank you for taking the time to put it in words better than I could.

The last couple of years I would generally turn off just during Bears Mondays, but I've pretty much stopped since the Sharpe story. To even insinuate what he did about the Reif tragedy without proof or facing repercussions was despicable.

Oh yeah, as much as he wants to deny it he is a racist of the worst kind, one who doesn't think that he is racist.

Bottom line, when I first started listening to the show it was because it was fun and entertaining. The show no longer makes me laugh, it just makes me feel sad for Bernstein.

With it's faults, it's still the show that makes me genuinely laugh the most. That's all that matters to me as I slog through my workaday world.

Silvy IS a great guy. Showed up to two of our CSFMB bowling events. His show though, for me is a tough listen...it's just too bland. Waddle kinda kills my buzz too.

Best part about McNugget challenge was that not one board member paid any fucking attention to the B&B remote that was going on . Everyone headed towards the back . Couldn't even tell there was a radio show in attendance.

I was a charter member and organizer of the B&B ALS. But I certainly understand their faults. I'm not sure where you're headed with this...I've met Silvy and Dan in person. Both were equally nice to me. If you didn't know him at a PTA meeting and struck up a conversation with him, I guarantee you'd find Dan personable. I'm not here to stick up for him...he doesn't care that I am defending his off-air personality. I can only tell you my experience.

I've never really liked Dan. I thought his solo weekend shows were overly giggly about stuff that wasn't funny. I kind of liked the B and B mid day show but I rarely listened. The show is now BERNSTIEN and boers. I don't particularly care for it but I'm usually only there for the last 15 minutes of the show.
