Have to say, the story of the girl is really terrible and just from the story alone, sounds like Ray might have been set up...at least in 1 case against him.

The girl accusses him of having sex with her when she CLAIMS she was passed out....OK, legit claim, maybe or maybe not....but then she goes to get some Vodka with him, comes back and does Ray a couple more times as a parting gift???? Then says she was raped?

Thats just 1 case...

I'm just going to put this out there: I honestly don't care about athletes personal lives. Don't give a shit if they are a good person or a bad person away from the game -I'm a fan, just help my team win.

That said, this is a bad signing with not much upside. Already a media catastrophe and on top of that it's for an average -at best- player. At least Marshall was a top-5 talent type guy at his position.

This tmz type circus bullshit means jack shit to me outside of it being bad for the locker room or costing the team I root for money they could have spent elsewhere.

Whatever.

Am I a bad guy?

Also, so far Ryan Pace has looked like a complete idiot that shouldn't be in charge of a team.

It's still really early tho, so I'm not judging.

Yup.

The fact he is signing anyone over the age of 28 is disturbing. He looks to be carrying on the proud tradition of having Bears teams strive to be around .500 every single year.

The fact that he keeps "checking" with higher-ups is disturbing.

the negatives mcdonald would seem bring to the team to appear to outweigh the positives he can bring to the team in my mind.... but i'm not terribly worried a potentially bad guy is on the bears. I kind of agree the woman's story from the december incident is shakey at best. but if this is a vet min type deal with minimal guarenteed $$.... it doesnt hurt the team long term and it gives them a capable player at a cheap rate

pundits claiming the bears are in cub type rebuilding mode for the next 2-3 years simply dont understand today's NFL... I'm optimistic this team can contend for a playoff spot next year and as long as you arent tying up big $$ long term on older players i dont have a problem signing a few cheap vets to fill the roster. The only signing thus far that I don't like is the Rolle deal because of his age and years of the contract, the rest have either been good signings or do not negatively affect the teams future ability cap-wise to make moves

This is pretty much what they've done since the Super Bowl season. The worst thing you can be in the NFL is old and average. You just continue the cycle of signing older free agents who then get injured and then you say "Well, if not for the injuries" and you try it again the next year.

This whole season should be designed around getting younger. They don't need to go 0-16, even though that would be nice, but this free agency period seems to be putting them right back in the hunt for an 8-8 season. Maybe a few things go their way, they sneak into a wild card, and get outclassed by the teams that are actual Super Bowl contenders.

Pace is making the same mistake Emery did. Emery came in thinking how he could win in year 1. I don't want my GM to win in year 1. I'd have kept the old guy if that were the case.

I largely concur with these thoughts, Rick. Pace is the captain of the Titanic but he seems to think he's steering the Love Boat.

The three signings yesterday were one year deals for cheap money.

And the Bears were 10-6 in year one and a blown assignment in week 17 from making the play-offs in year two.

I don't care if they were paying to play for the Bears.

That was pretty cool!

I hope we almost make the playoffs every year!

how does signing cheap older FA's to one year deals impact the organization's ability to draft and develop young talent? Two separate things in my book. The bears need better drafts so in 2-3 years there isnt a need to fill holes with aging vets

I'd rather have someone who is younger even if they aren't as good. They may develop into a player that matters in a few years or the Bears get a higher draft pick.

Brick and please correct me if I am wrong( I am sure you will), weren't you saying how the Cubs should have signed some veterans and they wouldn't have had to go in this tank mode that they have been in over the past few years?

they dont currently have any young players that are good... as it stands now they only get to draft 6 new young players.... maybe next year they can combine these 6 from 2015 with 7 more for 2016 and there wont be as many FA signings of older players... i think the caoches are going to play the younger guy if it is close.... but throwing an unprepared rookie out there can do more harm than good.

bottom line i dont see a problem with signing vets to one year deals for cheap money this season.... as long as the team drafts better over the next 2-3 years the overall team will get better and be in a position to challenge for actually winning a title and not just making the playoffs...signing cheap vets for one year deals does not impact that schedule/plan at all

It's about the length of time. The Cubs were bad for 5 straight years.

Let me put it another way.

Would you rather the Bears had the third pick in this years draft or where they are now?

These veteran signings only make a high pick less likely next year, with no real long term hope that these players are building blocks.

It doesn't matter if you draft well.

The point is that Pace has made it far more likely that the bears will be a play off team in 2015.

The Packers have done nothing.

The Lions have regressed. A lot.

And the Vikings aren't looking any better either.

As pootons said, he will be judged by his drafts.

I don't know one thing about this guy. He plays in the NFL so I'll assume he's a bad guy. But I heard bernstein relating the story about the girl who didn't remember fucking him and I have to say, if two people get fucked up and have sex, I don't see how that's a rape. You don't remember sticking your tongue down the guy's throat? How is that on him? If he were having sex with an unconscious person that would be one thing. But that really doesn't seem to be the case from the facts as I heard them.

unless there is an andrew luck coming out next year i dont want a tank season. if you draft well overall... drafting 3 vs. 15 shouldnt matter in the long run. and it is definitely not worth struggling through another season like last year purely for draft position.

Correct.

This is the NFL, not the MLB.

if nas were still here he'd argue you on this one, troll or otherwise.

but you know it's a thing now for people to go back 5-15yrs and talk about how they were raped in college after the fact, right?

so pretty much when it's getting down to a bit of the ol in and out nowadays you might wanna go get a late night meal and drink a lot of water before you take any chick home from the bar, and make sure you dont piss her off at any point in your lives. while it's one thing to neglect victims of legit rape, it's another thing to end up being a regretful lay and then find out 5-15yrs later you're a gimmick to sell a book, erm sorry i mean a rapist!

/me waves to lena dunham!

Unless you just blame everything on "Dr. Death". I'm not sure why bernstein didn't choose that route. He thought they were a contender before last season began.
