There are countless reasons to stop listening. The show is definitely not as good as it used to be (hit its peak in the late 00s, imo). The hilarity of the sound drops was at the core of what made the show great. Each press conference was a MST3k episode. Non-sports discussion was hilarious, can't-miss radio.
Now, the only thing I consider can't-miss is the propers. Give me the Les Grobstein-isms, all the hilarious audio, then by the first commercial break I turn the sound down. But as long as I continue to be suicidally bored at work in the late afternoons, I suppose they'll always have my attention. Even with their decline, there is nothing else in Chicago that comes close.

You seem like one of those people that have nice things to say about everybody, especially giving the benefit of the doubt to things or people you like. While you may understand their faults, you still view the show in a very positive light. I'm the opposite and I think Dan is in real life exactly what he is on the radio.

Because they take the same topics daily and drive them into the ground ad nauseam one doesn't need to listen that much to come away with what they are talking about. Too many times its on in my car in the first two hours, and they are hammering the same point in the same manner in the last two hours.

Dan spends 25 hours a week espousing a socially toxic worldview to hundreds of thousands of people, so color me unimpressed that he managed to restrain himself from spitting on CoF at a remote once. He's garbage. Ill-bred.

Silvy IS a great guy. Showed up to two of our CSFMB bowling events. His show though, for me is a tough listen...it's just too bland. Waddle kinda kills my buzz too.

as i've always said, listening to silvy for any extended period of time makes ME wanna blow my nose! =D

I'd liken to reading here in the same vein of a baseball recap. It's repetitive enough now that in baseball a single to right you can paint a general description of a single to right. It doesn't tell you what type of single to right it was. It's the same here. I've heard more than enough shows to get a general picture without having to dial in for specifics.

The last hourly podcast I dialed in for was when Bernstein started with the Patrick Sharp chatter. I was annoyed at how he handled it. I turned it off. It didn't start as a conscious last straw turn off. I just stopped and started listening to Adam Carolla (not sure if the podcast is a keeper), Jim Florentine and Comedy Central. I then realized it's been a while since I tuned in and that I don't miss it at all.

I might give ESPN 1000 a try.

I'll probably contribute to the wagering forums here and there and mostly lurk here.

i bet if we had a poll here for "which phrase is more likely to bring swift certain death?" with that phrase and "i'm going on sports & torts" i think we'd have one hell of a poll that goes down to the wire =D

One of the things stopping me from finally doing Bernstein Bingo is that "You are garbage, you are ill-raised" is so deserving of being given a square, yet I can't imagine a scenario in which we ever hear it again. It was really the culmination of three years of shit in one glorious moment.

I'm expecting vanilla and boring. I have low expectations. That is the Chicago sports talk scene.

Can't believe I blew the ill-raised line, though ill-bred works just as well. Maybe Dan would have turned out better if his dad had fucked Brittney Griner!

And I'd be totally fine with that if his trollish ways had not infected so many else at that station. There are 4 guys, hosts or producers or update, who you can count on to not have drank from the Dan Bernstein fountain of misery. He sets the tone for that station and it fucking sucks.

There is no better example than when Terry is on his own. It might not be a great listen but, at least it isn't enraging.

Dan is black/white to the point he's simplistic and that is the last thing this knee-jerk society needs right now. Then he uses his radio platform to further surrender critical thought.

So they're doing this 2 days in a row? I actually really enjoyed Speigs and Goff today because they didn't harp on one topic.

I have actually met him. He tried to give us 10 foot midget and seemed socially awkward and tense. The only way I could see him being sort of normal around some one is if he thinks he is better than that person.

Try some ESPN....its at least real..

disagree completely, bigfan. He may play the bad guy on the radio but the very first time I met him at a remote, he took almost the entire break talking to me, who he'd previously only talked to on the air about life, my spouse, his spouse, the radio biz etc. The next break he did it again while Terry stretched his legs with on of the Flying Zarang brothers. He's a nice guy in person. That same day I met Matty and he also was a genuine guy who took even more time to talk, gave me his cell number, etc (at that point I had thought about using my degree to get into radio). Terry's a bit more reserved in person but he'll still tell you all the stories you want to hear. Unfortunately I met Baby McNown that same day. Actually he's quite nice in person too, gives off a Baldy McGrindy feel. Who is also a nice guy. And before everyone gets on me for meeting all these guys and acting like I think I'm special, hey, just go to the remote and you're likely to have the same experience. Meet the guys once and they'll remember you the rest of the times you see them.

However, yes, the show is a tough listen since Penn State and CTE. Shows do change. I still get enough out of it to listen every day I can. I'm not above calling them on their wrongs, hence calling about the golden age of GM's. But the show still beats everything else for me. What that says about me and sports radio in general, I'll let others be the judge.

Well, here's somebody that knows him a lot better than you. He agrees with Big Fan.

No surprise to this keen observer of the passing scene (RIP good Boers). Bernsie had no use for you until he sees you talk to Mitch or something similar.

Well if you in real life is anything like your board persona does this shock you?
