Rongey talked to Buddy Bell (BRick, that's your asst. GM) Saturday after inside the clubhouse. pretty good interview if you have the chance to hear it.

rongey asked if rondon (sic) will be on the opening day roster. bell, hemmed, hawed and said we just can't.

later in the interview he mentioned sox are having rondon (sic) focus on working on his change-up. fastball and slider already mlb quality. buddy, start with the change-up development next time you're asked the above question!

The beauty about having a franchise no one cares about is you can pull the exact same stunt and it'll be met with a shrug of the shoulders.

Across town, the Chicago White Sox have a top prospect of their own who could make an immediate impact with the team. Carlos Rodon has just over 21 professional innings after the White Sox made him the third overall draft pick last year and signed him to a contract in excess of $6 million. Kiley McDaniel ranked him the number eight prospect in all of baseball, noting his great slider. He might not make a big impact this season, but he is likely to be an upgrade over what the White Sox currently have in the rotation.

After trading for Jeff Samardzija and signing Melky Cabrera, projecting the team to win just 78 games might come as a surprise. The Sox have Chris Sale, Jeff Samardzija, and Jose Quintana anchoring the rotation, but the White Sox could have two replacement-level or below pitchers in the rotation with Hector Noesi and John Danks. The White Sox still owe Danks around $14 million each of the next two seasons, but the left-hander has not had a decent season since 2011. Rodon does not have any service time so the White Sox could gain an extra year of service time by keeping him down for a few weeks. Those few weeks are not likely to make a difference in the team’s playoff chances, but if they keep him down too long, they might find themselves out of the race earlier than expected.

I don't want him on the major league team right now. He's going to have an innings cap of around 150 this year. Better to start him in the minors and limit his innings there so he can pitch in meaningful games big league games in August and September.

It probably helps a little that Bryant has played 174 minor league games and Rodon has played in 9.

Where will they be trading him to?

I think you're confused. Games in August and September are meaningful because those games are often on the stretch run to a playoff berth. I know you're accustomed to those games meaning more for how much closer they can get you to a higher draft pick, but that's not how it works for most of baseball.

This might not sink in the first time so its okay if this flies right over your empty skull: Some teams try to win games late in the year. Understand?

wow, who would've thought rondon is going to have to replace shark in the rotatoin when he gets called up instead of noesi in the rotation.

I guess maybe RFDC is confused because the White Sox have been out of contention the last two years and now people are assuming they'll be in a playoff race?
