most of the critics don't even know who mac or bernstein are. so the theory they came down on him becuase he is a hypocrite makes no sense.

difference between mac or anyone else's on-air cat-calling of various females (or, in Mac's case, males with thick behinds or large gear) and Bernstein's twitter-faux-pas---Bernstein did it on twitter.

Remarkable that given the bodies stacked like cord-wood along the paths of twitter that anyone would go where Spiegs and Bernstein did on twitter....but had they yucked it up over "boobies" during tranny instead of on twitter....this thread doesn't exist.

I know this point has been made already, but it bears repeating: Isn't Aiyana Crystal employed at CSN precisely due to her physical attributes? And isn't her work entirely meaningless? Does anyone respect her journalistic skill? It's amusing to hear the "feminist" outcry against patriarchal objectification of women when many women, especially in Aiyana Crystal's profession, often present themselves as objects (for the pleasure of the "male gaze), thereby confirming the legitimacy of and their acquiescence to patriarchal ideology and misogynistic behavior.

Let's face it, the whole notion that most sports reporters--especially those in the corporate-owned media--should be respected for their work is laughable. Professional accomplishment is not what gets you in front of the camera these days.

You're probably correct, and no doubt Dan believes this (and has said so in the past), but if you're in that industry you have to treat them as a part of it. And if you're a woman in the industry, being sideline eye-candy is probably one of the few entry points regardless of your acumen. If Dan wanted to make this a SJW crusade against the whole profession that'd be a slightly different story.

Plus, it sounds like the NABJ respects her skill, and them doing so is adding to Dan's problem.

So what if these were REALLY.SMART. PR firms we were talking about, and someone in one firm saw the office manager in the other and wrote a Facebook post saying I don't care how she answers the phone all one could see was her legs. And it similarly 'blew up' to where both companies knew about it.

Sure, a lot of those involved would figure 'you're right, secretary work isn't that important and part of the gig is that it's good to have a pretty face at the front desk' but there'd still be a shit-storm.

no, it's not a good example. Modeling is where looks is the entire job.

Doris Burke and Rachel Nichols did/do sideline work but it's not their career or necessarily their complete background, because that job is also just a way for women to get airtime. But if you just saw them doing that job you'd automatically dismiss them (not the role, them as people) because it's supposedly a looks-based position? When Aiyana Cristal isn't doing the Bulls games they have Chuck Garfein in that role, do you go 'all I see is his steely-blue eyes'.

Do you ever notice a pattern about female sports teleprompter readers? I'd say for some roles, that looks are a vital part of it.

If they were doing what I considered good work then I'd judge them on that, and their looks too because they are on television.

I judge Chuck Garfein on looks too I assume, but some things are more noticeable than others.

A somewhat less shitty example, but if it was some other Hollywood producer saying that (and in the fashion Bernstein did), there'd be something.

Even so, actresses do ok in 'general' entertainment relative to their challenges in sports.
