All this commotion over little old me?

Are there Cubs fans saying there wasn't excitement over Baez with a straight face? I distinctly remember Bryant sized hand wringing over when he was going to be brought up.

Cubs fans were pretty excited about Baez when he was in AA because he was hitting HR's like Bryant is now. Then he got to AAA last year and everyone realized the guy can't hit a curve ball and Cubs fans started to temper their excitement. It looked like he was able to make some adjustments at AAA which got him called up to MLB. Cubs fans were excited to see if he could keep it together but, ultimately, it was proven that he could not hit MLB pitching.

Right now, I would say Cubs fans would be happy if he could put up Darwin Barney type numbers.

BC nailed it

I think you meant BS

Don't you remember all the "starts slow makes adjustments at every level" theories? The truth is, I kind of expect that to hold true again if the Cubs give him some time. If the Cubs are not contending this year, let him take his lumps at the MLB to see what you have.

It's incredibly uncomfortable for me to be the guy telling Cubs fans to have patience with the prospects

I don't expect he will. In the minors he was always able to feast on pitchers mistakes. Big league pitchers don't make many mistakes so Baez would have to change his entire approach to hitting and I don't think he has mental makeup to do that. He is what he is.

Big league pitchers don't make many mistakes? Just ask Donnie Moore about that.

If Baez adjusts I will be shocked. He really has not shown he can after pitchers at every level adjust to him and his crazy zone. Strikeout machine. DH at best if he can survive long enough. I hope I am wrong but doubt it.

This morning Levine said that Baez shouldn't be embarrassed even if he is sent down to the minors..."after all, at that age, Willie Mays was sent down too." Then at the end of the show, he says Mays was never sent down...just that the team "thought about it."

Bruce fucking up this great story

At 20 years of age, Willie Mays was in the major leagues - and was feeling completely overwhelmed. In May 1951 the New York Giants promoted Mays from the minors. He told Giants manager Leo Durocher that he didn't think he was ready to hit big-league pitching. Durocher thought otherwise and made Mays his center fielder. But after his first 26 at bats, Mays had only one hit. He became so discouragedhe was crying when D urocher found him in the locker room after a game. "I said to Leo that he'd better 'send me back to the minors because I don't think I can hit up here. I think you brought me up (from the minors) too early,' " recalled Mays, 69, in a recent interview. Durocher knew he had to get Mays to stop pressing and just play. He demonstrated to Mays the confidence he had in him. "As long as I'm the manager,Willie, you're going to play center field," Durocher told Mays. "You are the best ballplayer I have ever seen." "Those few words that Leo said made me realize that I could play major-league ball," Mays said. " 'You will be my center fielder.' That relaxed me." Mays pounded out nine hits in his next 24 at bats. He went on to become the National League Rookie of the Year in 1951.

The Strikeout-O-Meter won't need to go in hiding.

Cubs have done a 180 on Javier Baez . He now seems in good shape to open on the 25 man roster .

The strikeouts can be counted starting April 5th!

Maybe he will go the Jose Abreu route and become an excellent small-ball hitter.

Apparently Joe Madden has told Baez to whoa that pony.

Baez optioned to Iowa. Bryant and Russell sent down as well, per Cubs.

jimmy, looks like you have to FedEx the Strikeout-O-Meter to Iowa.

If they send Lester down they'll have a better team in Des Moines than they do in Chicago.

The writing was on the wall when they acquired LaStella. It's not going to be easy for him to change his approach in the minors.

That's where he belongs! He will fade into memory just like Brett Jackson.

Maddon told Baez he might be the "most accomplished" 22 year-old he's been on the field with re other aspects of game besides hitting

just gotta figure out that small little skill called hitting

Maddon's been pumping him up about his defense all spring to avoid discussion about hitting. Meanwhile, you don't see Joe trotting him out there at SS.

Baez will see the majors again in a few years for some garbage ass team who traded away a guy with 4 Tommy John surgeries to get him.
