Did they report anything close to what Bernstein said about the suicide? Only things I saw cited Bernstein as the source.

I hardly ever see this referenced so I'm beginning to wonder if I misheard it, but I thought that either the day or the day after Santo died, during transition, either Mac or Spiegel said in a "That's too bad" tone that Santo didn't get into the Hall of Fame before he died, and Bernstein said "Good!"

I don't know if someone, or all of them, shot him a look in the studio, but I don't think he ever said it again.

I remember he used to say that he had sources in JDRF who said they didn't want Santo as the face of the charity, but I don't recall him ever again saying that he was glad that he died before he got into the HoF.

That sounds right from my memory.

They certainly blamed him for his diabeetus due to his life choices.
