They've lost worse under this ownership than under any other.

I know RPB is always insisting most Cub fans aren't overly optimistic, but you sure do seem to be making a rather large assumption.

I was plenty aware of the faults of Tribune ownership: scalping their own tickets, the disconnectedness of the corporate structure, "being competitive within the division." But at least they didn't set out to lose hundreds and hundreds of games until we could pay to watch commercials on giant TVs.

I would argue that they set out to lose by attrition

But I was just wondering what the difference between Tribune and Ricketts was for you.

I dont like Tom Ricketts but I think he does want to win. I dont know that the Tribune did.

Gotta give props to the 2-man grounds crew. The grass looks great. Maybe Tommy allowed them to hire a 3rd guy.

Do you have the W-L numbers under tribune ownership?

That thing is grotesque. Maybe not as bad as the Cell, but then again few are.

My grieving process over Wrigley's demise is over, so this is really no longer a personal lamentation over the destruction of a gorgeous landmark but just another way to ooze Cubs hate out of my sinuses. I had already decided I hate it, fully lathered up for bitching about it whenever I made it to a game this summer. If its actually an abomination (it totally is) that'll make the experience all the more cathartic.

They've been one of the 10 worst teams in baseball for like 5 years now. The Trib ownership at least wrestled contention out of them occasionally.

Yeah, they were good every 6 years or so with the Trib. We'll see. Definitely a bad start for Ricketts.

Slow start but I like what I see now. Money is being spent on baseball and ballpark.

And they are saving money by sending prospects down.

Prospects are nothing more than future failures. This year has too much going for it to risk by playing Kris Bryant!

Rickett ineptitude has been pretty historic. They bought Theo as flak and he has more than outperformed expectations. All of this expansion bumbling should have heads rolling. Instead Crane is a trusted consular and Ricketts gets no criticism for winter being cold. I actually heard the great Julian Green complain about historically cold February, completely avoiding the temperate November-January.

I guarantee that a Wrigleyville frat boy will climb a crane on opening night to watch the game. He'll be drunk, fall and kill himself.

It will be bad optics for the Cubs.

That is good. Because being in love with an object in a professional sports stadium would be creepy.

It makes the old scoreboard look ridiculous. Proportion has been destroyed. This is the same type of half-assed modernization while trying to maintain the old that has the columns at Soldier Field still standing and looking absurd. They would have been better off to move the old scoreboard to left and put the monstrosity in center.

Touche, you wily son of a bitch!

Hey man, this current size is after two (2) reductions in size. Imagine what it would look like had it been the original size.

edit:

Original proposal was ~6,000 sq ft.... 60' H x 100' W

First reduction in July 2013 was ~4,500 sq. ft..... 47' H x 95' W

Final product: 3,990 sq ft.... 42' H x 95' W

I don't see anything in Fenway as ridiculously out of proportion as that board. But hey, visitors to Wrigley will now be able to partake in America's most popular sport- watching TV.

Major accident involving construction collaterals at Wrigley Field Sun-pm could be Mayor Rahm's Bilandic Snowstorm; ticketee beware.

I believe Joe Orr Road Rod truly wants to be a Cubs fan, but feels he is too far gone and the criticism from friends and family would be too immense.

Fenway's jumbo tron is in center/right center, and much higher up than the Cubs new fangled one, so it seems far less out of proportion.

To me, the Cubs one looks like somebody who hangs up a 60" flat screen in a tiny living room.

That's interesting considering most of my friends and nearly all of my family members are Cub fans.
