The same media that could say no wrong about Cub's prospects a year is starting to break bad on Theo & Co. It's an open secret that the Cubs trade jobs in their FO in exchange for glowing reviews from bloggers, so this is kind of interesting. He goes out of his way to pretend he isn't burying Baez, but you look at those numbers and especially the projection that says he's hopeless and it makes you wonder.

Abreu slugging percentage was 475 in August and .464 in September

He was probably just tired but to act like the dip didn't happen or wasn't significant is silly

The point IMU was trying to make that in order for Abrue to hit for high average he had to sacrifice his power. Again, he had a .374 average in the same month he slugged .667.

He didn't sacrifice average for power. The power drop was a combination of juice wearing off, 33 year old body and wanting the season over.

Kirkwood you sound dumber and dumber every time you speak of Abreu. No MLB plager with 200+ at bats after the AS game had more hits or a higher batting average, and he was 3rd in OPS.

Seems to me that the power dip had nothing to do with getting tired. Pitchers were making adjustments and not. Wanting to give up home runs and he was good enough to take what was given.

That totally explains batting .350+ in the second half good point.

My bad. I looked up AL and not MLB. Still pretty good from Abreu though; http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp#e ... extended=0

Kirkwood still sounds dumb whene talks about Abreu. Its like a rocket scientist compared to you though. I said at bats, and you give plate appearances. Real bright!

That's why I did add BB.

But I do wonder what has changed ... obviously Abreu is a hit monster/machine but the POP just went away. Was he hurt or tired? If so Robin didn't need him to play the field he had Dunn, Paulie and Tank for that. Did the pitchers change and Jose changed his swing? That's a possible reason but isn't he being paid like a Bomber not a slapper. Was it regression to the norm? Maybe the PECOTA projections weren't that far off then. All the "just made it" in to the first row first homers beccame doubles.

I hope we can have a serious discussion and talk aout what you saw. I lean toward some regressin but mostly that he changed his game and I do not know if that is what the team needs from him.

He was playing on a hurt ankle that worsened as the season proceeded. Next.

Oh well then a sprain. Since that hardly ever happens during a 162 game season he should be good to go then without worry that a little owie will reduce his power significantly.

If his ankle was THAT hurt then why keep playing him in the field? Shouldn't he have been the full time DH and let Dunn, PK or Tank play first. Did the manager not talk to the trainer?

Your typing sucks.

I don't know why Abreu hit didn't hit more HRs after the AS game. I suspect it was a combination of the ankle, pitchers pitching him differently, fatigue, and him just taking what pitches he was given.

The point is that it is absolutely fucking absurd to suggest he had a poor second half like you and Kirkwood have done on more than one occassion. You Cubs fans would be creaming your pants every other day if Kris Bryant came up in July this year and put up the kind of numbers Abreu had last year post AS game.

the guy is a warrior. I know Cubs fans wouldn't understand it as they applaud giving a 25 year old guy rest even during spring training.

I seem to recall Frank Thomas focusing on hitting over power the first half of his career. Later on as needed he shifted his focus on power and was quite effective.

Im just pointing out the silliness of the statements made about Mauer and Ichiro. If they can hit 30 homers, they totally should

You mean 40 homeruns with a .380ish obp? Yes, they should.

Homeruns are a good thing. Especially when the obp doesnt suffer. Mauer rightfully won the MVP the year he hit 28.

People act like 30 points of average is equal or better than 30 homeruns. Silly.

.280 with 30 homeruns is better than .320 with 6 homeruns.

Isn't Ichiro considered to have been better than Dunn?

I'd take Ichiro or Mauer over Dunn.

Yes, but much of that was due to defense and speed.

Strictly from an offensive perspective Dunn was right there with them. Higher OPS than both most years.

Joe Mauer had one amazing offensive season, but Ichiro and Mauer don't reach Adam Dunn when he was in his prime. How many straight seasons of OPS over .850 did he have? I'm guessing a ton. He was a beast.

I'd take Dunn easily. White Sox fans only remember White Sox Dunn.
